The most beautiful spot on Lake Como. From here you have an uninterrupted view of the lake and the mountains beyond, you can even see George Clooney's home (at least we think it is his home)! And you are surrounded by gardens that befit a palazzo. Magnificent at any time of the year!

The space
Set in a development of 22 apartments in lavish gardens, our apartment enjoys a stunning location with uninterrupted views of the lake above the picturesque village of Faggeto Lario. In the distance you can see the Intelvi mountains and the town of Laglio, of George Clooney fame.

This fabulous getaway is a real treat for a holidaying couple, whether by themselves or with up to 2 children.

The property comprises a living/dining area, a kitchen, one bedroom and an en-suite bathroom with a separate WC.

Immediately in front of the apartment is a private patio with stylish white wrought-iron furniture, which is for your exclusive use. From there you can enjoy wining and dining ‘alfresco’, overlooking the lake and the 300 year old church, the inspiration of many an artist.

You are surrounded by two hectares of magnificent communal gardens, which lead uphill to the funicular and the main entrance, and downhill to the lake side entrance. A sunny lawn provides a delightful spot where you can take a picnic or, if you prefer, you can relax with a good book next to the swimming pool; and take in the stunning lake views wherever you are.

The tasteful contemporary interior includes a fully-fitted kitchen and all the appliances needed for an enjoyable self-catering stay.

The dining area is furnished with a stylish white round table and designer chairs, perfect for entertaining up to 5 persons.

The master bedroom is furnished with elegant white minimalist furniture and a double bed. There is also a comfortable double sofa bed in the living room, ideal for 1 or 2 young children or another couple, as well as another sofa that can be made into a single bed. Maximum permitted capacity is 4 persons.

There is WiFi at your disposal, plus an expanding library of DVD's (200+ at the last count), and books (many of them hard-to-find and beautifully illustrated editions covering the history and culture of the region), as well as information and guide books covering the local area. So you will have plenty to keep you occupied on a rainy day, when the lake takes on a surreal new beauty.

You will have your own secure private parking space. The lake beach and jetty for the ferry service are less than 5 minutes by foot, as is the highly rated "Il Vapore" restaurant. There also a bus service running from Como to Bellagio, the stop is 50m from the entrance to the property, close to your local pizzeria and bar.

Where you’ll be

Faggeto Lario, CO, Italy

This is the quiet and scenic side of Lake Como, far away from the madding crowds of the western shore. Here you will enjoy rustic Italy at its most authentic, and immediately above you is the Triangolo Larioso, an unspoilt undulating plateau that is a haven for hikers and cyclists.

You are only 9km (20 mins drive) from the city of Como. Replete with cafe-lined piazzas, elegant restaurants, weekend markets, designer shops, museums and galleries, and of course the magnificent Duomo in the heart of the historical town, it is a major centre of history, culture and entertainment as well as your principal shopping destination. It is indeed a happening town, and all year round. Be sure to take the funicular to Brunate, at the peak of the hill that overlooks Como, the views from there are simply stunning and will put the region into perspective.

In the opposite direction you are only 25km from Bellagio, the jewel of Lake Como, and gateway to the eastern leg and northern half of the lake, the ancient towns of Varenna and Balleno, the Valtellina region and the Swiss Alps. En route you must stop at Nesso (11 km) to see the magnificent bridge on the lake front that dates from Roman times and the waterfall above it.

No doubt you will want to visit some of the mansions and gardens that surround the lake. Our favourites are Villa Balbianello in Lenno, arguably the most beautiful spots anywhere on the lake, and Villa Carlotta in Tremezzo. Or if you are in Bellagio then you must visit Villa Meltzi, best seen in the afternoon sun.

For the more active among you, the lake and its surrounds offer an astonishing variety of sporting and leisure activities - the list includes swimming, sailing, power boat hire, sea plane adventures (Como has the oldest flying club in Europe), windsurfing, tennis, and golf.

Lake Como is an year-round destination. The weather in spring and autumn is usually very settled, the temperatures are comfortable both day and night, ideal for the great outdoors. The skies are deep blue and with the flowers blooming or the leaves turning, the snow lingers on the mountain tops, the area is a feast for the eyes in both seasons. And nowhere more so than the view from our property, which ranges from the mesmerising to the intoxicating as the year progresses.
