About this listing

A double room situated with views of the Blackwater and Knockmealdown mountains with ensuite bathroom in a sensitively converted traditional Irish cottage. Private sitting room, garden, near michelan starred restaurant, The Cliff House, beaches...

The space

This really is a unique space. Irish cottages are renown for their character and quirky arrangement of rooms, where no two are alike. I fell in love with this style of house 20 years ago when my family moved here from England, but never expected to own one of my own! They are a throwback in time and these days are becoming rarer due to the costs of renovation, something I was ignorant of when first taking on such a project.

Guest access

We are happy to share our kitchen with you, where we cook on an aga. You may prefer to eat separately in which case there is a little room off the kitchen for breakfast. As a family we rarely use the sitting room, so this is yours for your stay.

Interaction with guests

I would be delighted to make recommendations of where to visit in the local area. There is a great deal to see not least the beaches, and more than a handful of exceptional restaurants to include the Cliff House Hotel, Ardmore (10 minutes away), the Tannery Dungarvan (25 minutes away) and Ahernes (5 minutes away), Ballymaloe House (40 mintues away) and Ballymaloe Cookery School is a 40 minute drive and has a wonderful garden and cafe. In addition there are several very beautiful houses and gardens open to the public along the Blackwater. Stunning and part of a wonderful tapestry of local history. Youghal itself has a faded beauty, from the days when it was a significant seaside resort.

Other things to note

Cork airport is a 45 minute drive from Ballycrompane.

Me and my partner recently spent a weekend at Emma's very beautiful home and we loved every minute of our stay. It was a great location to a wedding we had come over to Ireland for. The room was much more than I expected, It is simply stunning especially the surrounding views. I would go and stay again in a heart beat. Emma and her beautiful family made us both feel very welcomed and were a pleasure to be around. If you are planning a trip to cork, I can't recommend enough that you should stay here xxx Thank you Emma

It was one of our best Airbnb experience. Emma is an amazing host; she made us feel at home, giving us rides to the town and the cliffs plus having great conversations. Her 3 kids are brilliant! It was such a pleasure to meet them all and spend time at the beautiful garden. The room is way better than it seems in the photos. The bed is so comfy and the light blue color of the walls makes you feel like you're in a movie, it was magical! We would come again without hesitating.

Great place to stay in a gorgeous Irish cottage. Gorgeous views to the river and the Irish countryside. Nice comfy bed and even a queen size. Would stay again if the opportunity arises. Emma is a great host very warm and friendly. Best cup of coffee we have had so far in Ireland. Thank you!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Emma was an excellent host: helpful, thoughtful, always available to answer questions or give us assistance when we needed it, and made us feel very welcome in her home. She was also happy to collect us from and take us back to the bus station, and give us lifts into town, which was really helpful! We really enjoyed meeting Emma's family too (and her pets!). The house was quiet and peaceful, our room was comfortable and spacious, and we would definitely recommend Emma's place to others.

We live in a beautiful part of the world and love to share with our guests. Our home is an old Irish cottage and retains many of the original features mixed in with contemporary design. I run an online business called I am of Ireland selling Irish craft and art. Loved reading, writing and the countryside! Life motto 'Peace and Harmony'
