A spacious (160 sq m) open-plan first floor loft style apartment. The entire gable end is comprised of an impressive floor to ceiling 12-metre long window. 2 bedrooms with en-suite. Mezzanine with 2 single mattresses. doub sofa bed. Modern kitchen.
A huge, light and airy space. The open-plan modern kitchen is well equipped and a great place to cook. There are 2 sofas in the seating areas and a large dinning table. Both bedrooms have showers and whirlpool baths to unwind. The bathroom ceilings have large sky-light windows to gaze at the passing clouds or stars while in the bath. The apartments is accessed via an external stairway and is unfortunately not suitable for anyone with decreased mobility.
The whole apartment is for guests and is not shared. The Tractor Shed Loft Apartment is situated in Glensallagh Gardens and you may come across us (or others guests staying in our other property) in the garden. You are welcome to enjoy the garden at you leisure. There is a great place to sit and relax and we have a huge fire fit (shared) for BBQ and just sitting around a fire. The apartment is on the first floor (for our American guests this is the second floor) which is accessed via an external industrial stairway which is not suitable for persons with decreased mobility.
Interaction with guests
Our house is also situated in the garden and our door is always open should you need us. That said, we like to provide our guests with privacy while they are here and we keep a low profile. We have been known to have a drink/afternoon tea/BBQ/drinks with guests and we enjoy meeting new people. Our little Jack Russell terrier Pola enjoys meeting primates - especially if they make a fuss of her - but we recommend supervision with small children who can make her nervous. Our old Border Collie, Monty, is a gentle old fella who will also come out to greet you!
Other things to note
We have a wind turbine (which is very quiet) - this provides some of the electricity you will be using. The hot water in the Tractor Shed Loft Apartment is generated by solar panels.
Please treat our home with respect. Please treat your hosts as you would like to be treated. Pets with good owners welcome. No smoking inside. We recycle here but it is easy and we will explain it to you when you arrive. Please drive very slowly around the garden, we have dogs as well as ducks wondering around the place. We generate some electricity with our quiet wind turbine. Please turn off lights when you leave the property and only use the tumble dryer sparingly. We are happy for you to celebrate with a party/dinner party etc, while here but not for more people than are in the booking without prior arrangement.

Richard is a retired exploration geologist and Jules is a medical anthropologist. Both us us have traveled extensively (both having worked in sub-Saharan Africa, in Richard's case for over 40 years!) We also loved our experiences travelling in India. Richard also spent 5 years sailing on his boat in the Indian Ocean. Since retiring in 2008 Richard has been working tirelessly on developing our woodland garden and vegetable plots. Jules lectures part time in London (some commute!) and enjoys growing flowers & designing the gardens. We sell our unusual salad leaves, veg and edible flowers to local organic and artisan cafes and restaurants in the area.
We are keen cooks and are lucky to have excellent artisanal food products on our doorstep here in West Cork.
We enjoy chatting to our guests and sharing a drink with them on occasion but also happy to keep a low profile. We are here if you need us. We can of course advise you on where to go and where to eat etc.
We also share our home with Pola (5 year old long haired Jack Russell terrier) who enjoys tummy rubs and hunting rabbits and Monty (a 10 year old Border Collie) who is quite shy until you get to know him.
Richard can speak enough French to get by and we both speak a little Swahili.
