Talking about myself surely includes a large portion of my deep-rooted love for my surroundings. Like most city-dwellers, I was exhausted with Delhi's urban lifestyle, having spent my early years there. I resolved upon generally slowing down my pace and taking a deep breath. By this, I meant permanently moving to Goa. The reply to the frequent questioning of my decision was, the temptation to feel cool raindrops land on my tongue, to have crunchy sand caress my bare feet, see the roaring waves come to life and simply live the susegado way of ease, sipping coconut water and delving in flaming recheado curries, xacutis and Macanese serraduras. It was inevitable. Rain and I were ancient lovers. Settling in was a cakewalk, surrounded with a cordial and neighbourly society. Conveniently-located stores, eateries, bistros, stadiums, beaches, spas and salons, deluxe resort hotels, wine shops and Goa’s Latin quarter tours keep us entranced and pampered. Snuggling under fuzzy blankets and listening the (Hidden by Airbnb) ing of blue-eared kingfishers and sunbirds, seasoned by the splashing sound of rain is, by far, my happy place. The lush valley opposite to our villa entices local birds, a few of them being brahmini kites, conversational bulbuls and introverted owlets. Every morning, I go for my morning walk, waiting for the breadman ( locally known as "poder"), to bring his fresh and yeasty basket of Goan goodness. Reach back and sit in the balcony snuggled with warm cup of coffee inhaling the champa flowers' fragrance, viewing the small fishing boat and windsurfers enjoying in the water while bhraminic kites hovering around. Contrary to popular beliefs, our favourite time is not only the time of unique Nativity Scenes, Old Goa Feast, weight-loss New Year resolutions, for it’s also the well-reputed coastal monsoons that bring with it exotic flora and fauna and Sao Joao festivities. Throughout the year, Goa dutifully rewards us with Touxeachem and Patolleacnchem traditions and artsy film and painting festivals. Staycations and online work are now popular in Goa, thanks to our two fast fiber optic internet and work tables. WFB – Work From the Beach.
