This 3 floor house, built in 1920’s, is located only a few kilometers north of the small fishing town Dalvík. Through the decades it has been a country home and has now been renovated to retain the style and charm of the original structure. It is ideal for big families, couples or friends who want to spend a few days relaxing or exploring the area.
The house has an outside hot tub and a sauna with a stunning mountain and ocean view.

Guest access

Guests will be able to access all areas of the house.

Interaction with guests

If you experience any issues during your stay at Karlsá, help is only a short distance away with the owners of the lodge based in Dalvík.

Other things to note

While the house is family friendly it is located on the road between Dalvík and Ólafsfjordur so we recommend that kids be restricted to the back yard of the house and are aware of "street safety". There are also 2 steep staircases in the house. A gate can be put up to block children from going up or down if this is a concern.

We rented the entire lodge for a birthday celebration trip including 11 of us. It was lovely to have the entire home to ourselves but I would recommend it to any travelers needing a whole house to accommodate a large group or just renting a room. While the house is incredibly charming and well equipped (from amazing showers, high end coffee makers, hot tubs with a view to die for) my favorite part was the landscape. Sweeping views of snow capped mountains, hikes to the fjord in one direction and hikes to a waterfall in the other. Only two minutes from town, we were able to enjoy being the only travelers in any direction...hiking and enjoying how stunningly beautiful Iceland is. Dalvik had everything a small town needs, coffee shop/bar, grocery store, horseback riding in the valley..crossing rivers and enjoying the local bird populations, whale watching...humpback whales only seconds from shore. A ferry to Hrissey makes for a great day trip (visit the local micro-brew before or after). More adventurous travelers (about 1/2 of our group) left from Dalvik to Grimsey to see thousands of puffins and cross the Arctic Circle. The fisherman in our group were able to drop a line in town and catch lots of fish (something that costs a small fortune on the rivers). We started our trip in the more touristy area in the West, which was wonderful, but coming to the North (via some incredibly scenic mountain roads along the "Troll Peninsula" and one way tunnels) was perfectly off-the-beaten-path! We took a day trip to Myvatn and Akureyi, including Godfoss and while our weather wasn't holding up for us on this excursion it was still worth the trip. In nicer weather we would have kept on going and added Husavik to the journey. Back tracking around the peninsula makes for another fun day trip but having said all of that...we could have stayed put at Karlsa for a week and been perfectly happy hiking right outside the door in any direction, drinking coffee, relaxing in the hot tub and enjoying flocks of sheep and horses grazing happily in this amazing place they call home. Our host was easy to reach and had everything organized. I hope that I will be able to come back again some day. A note about Iceland in general - if you hear it is expensive - triple your expectations (even grocery shopping will set you back 2 - 3 times what you would expect to pay in the US). Having a house to be able to cook meals makes this a much more affordable option.
