A historic, beautifully restored stone cottage on a narrow road just a couple of minutes walk from Biggar High Street. Tranquil, spacious and utterly charming with beamed ceilings, woodburner, super-comfy bed and a great view of the hills.

The space
The cottage is your home during your stay and you can expect a high standard of accommodation and a personally tailored professional service. Ferniehaugh has been rated Four Star by Visit Scotland and is managed with care by the experienced host.

Tiny on the outside but extending back behind the frontage to the kitchen extension, conservatory and small outdoor terrace and with an upstairs dormer overlooking the hills, the cottage is a bit like the tardis! It's set on a very quiet road just two minutes walk from Biggar High Street with its wide range of shops, pubs, restaurants.

Stairs lead from the sitting room to the incredibly peaceful upstairs bedroom with kingsize bed, luxury linens and heated blanket, original beamed ceilings and a lovely view of the hills.

The bathroom has full size bathtub with thermostatic shower over, WC and basin. Taller/larger guests should note that the bathroom is compact and has a partially sloping beamed ceiling.

The bright and spacious kitchen is perfect for cooking, relaxing and even working. There is also a conservatory and a small outdoor terrace that catches full sun.

Facilities include full central heating, double glazing, woodburning stove, washing machine, dishwasher, Smeg hob and oven, Nespresso machine, microwave, toaster and kettle, 40” Sony TV, Blu Ray player, streaming services (Netflix, Amazon, Now, Spotify). There is a traditional overhead airer (or 'pulley') in the kitchen for drying clothes.

There is a walk in cupboard for hanging space in the bedroom upstairs and an under- stairs cupboard for coats etc.

MONTHLY STAYS: utilities (gas and electricity) are not included in the discounted price. Additional charges will apply, depending on season.

Guest access
Guests have use of the the whole cottage with front and back doors and small outdoor terrace.

Other things to note
Taller guests should be aware of the sloping ceiling in the bathroom and guests with impaired mobility should note that there are fairly steep stairs to the upper floor..

Location

Biggar, United Kingdom

The picturesque former market town of Biggar makes the perfect base for a huge range of attractions and activities in the south of Scotland. There is loads to see and do around Biggar but it also perfectly placed for exploring the whole of south and central Scotland.

Biggar’ central location makes a great base for exploring the surrounding local towns, countryside and visitor attractions such as Tinto Hill, the Falls of Clyde, New Lanark, Dawyck Gardens, Peebles and Little Sparta - see Guide Book for details. Biggar itself has a wealth of independent shops (including a fabulous bookshop), several traditional pubs and a range of restaurants - and its very own museum, opened in 2015, with permanent and regular guest exhibitions. Local pubs regularly host live music, often traditional, and special events include the Biggar Little Festival in October and the Biggar Bonfire on Hogmanay. The cottage is also very convenient for the Edinburgh Festival.

I'm a retire academic and live with my husband Carey running an organic livestock farm at Weston Farm, Dunsyre, South Lanarkshire. We have several horses and dogs and welcome equestrian guests as well. As well as relaxing in the farmhouse or the cottage in Biggar, there are an amazing amount of interesting things to see and do in the south of Scotland off the more well trodden tourist trail. The farm and the cottage make great bases for exploring Edinburgh, Glasgow and the countryside surrounding us here. We love welcoming people to the area and we are always happy to help you plan an itinerary.
