The old smithy is a beautiful little cottage in a very small, quiet country village (Garrigill) near Alston, which is the highest town in England. We absolutely LOVED our stay in the old smithy, which was well-equipped for a relaxing weekend away. Bedding and towels are provided, there is a dvd player, a few tvs, and a well kitted out kitchen and dinning table facilities. I recommend taking a few board games and dvds for those cosy nights in! The house is situated about 45 minutes to the Lake District. Paul was very responsive to our communication and made sure we had everything we needed to enjoy our long weekend getaway. I whole-heatedly recommend this place!

The house is located perfectly. Walks and scenery idyllic; drive to nearby shops and pubs easy; cosy and warm house; and very friendly people in the village. Would thoroughly recommend to anyone wanting to 'get away from it', especially with there being no phone signal.

Although Paul couldn't meet us, it was made very simple how to enter the house, it was clean and tidy and very spacious. There where plenty of towels etc to use. The village is beautiful but id advise filling your car full of food and necessaties as the village shop is very poorly stocked. Ideal base for walkers and explorers or if you just want to get away from it all.

Paul was a fantastic host - we turned up en masse (eight of us + dog) and despite the chaos he patiently took us all around the property, talked us through the highlights of the area - which was beautiful but very wet! Excellent weekend had by all and the house was a brilliant bolt hole for us all. The open fires were particularly lovely and we even had wifi!
