Beautiful setting, wonderful places to walk and to top it all off, the home is at the end of a private drive. The hosts are a great couple!

Cove Cottage exceeded our expectations and then some. We knew it would be lovely from the pictures and from other guest reviews, but it was so charming and well appointed that we fell in love with it. The kitchen is stocked with updated appliances, an eight piece place-setting of dishes, all manner of pots and pans, cookie sheets, etc. There is a flat-screen tv with satellite reception, the wifi works very well, there are two full bathrooms, a great deck, and ocean views upstairs and down. We made great use of the upstairs reading room. For us, some of the best features were the easy access to great hikes (thanks, Richard, for the recommendations), the quiet location away from the bustle of Bar Harbor but near to Southwest Harbor, and the access to the cove for kayaking. We brought our own kayaks, but there is a canoe provided for guest use. We had two glorious paddles in the cove in front of the cottage and saw seals, cormorants, and porpoises!!! One tip: we had never been to Mount Desert Island and didn't know if we needed to get gas in Ellsworth before accessing the island. We didn't as there are several gas stations not far from the cottage. Also, although we cooked most meals in the cottage (we transported our food from home in two coolers), we enjoyed the lobster rolls at Beal's in Southwest Harbor. We had a lovely week and would definitely recommend Cove Cottage. We were four adults and were very comfortable, but I'm not sure the cottage would work as well for a family with small children/toddlers as the stairs to the second floor are quite steep. We stayed from September 9 to 16 and had a glorious week of weather. We did not have to turn on either the air conditioner, or the heat, and slept each night with the windows open (so quiet...). We are already dreaming of returning!

A tip to visitors is to stop at a grocery store to stock up on provisions before getting on the island as there are limited selections once there.

Response from Mary:
Sorry about the misunderstanding regarding the hot tub. We have a jacuzzi style bathtub and the only way to indicate this with the selections available of bathtub or hot tub was to check hot tub. We have removed hot tub from the checked items and checked bathtub instead. It is true that the large supermarkets such as Shaw's, Hannaford and Walmart are off island and stopping in Ellsworth on your way to the island is a good idea if you want to have a larger selection at a cheaper price. The island does however have 2 supermarkets--a Hannaford's in Bar Harbor as well as an excellent health food store and a supermarket in Southwest Harbor about 4 miles from the house that has a good selection. There are also very good bakeries for bread and baked goods, fresh fish and lobster suppliers, farmers' markets and specialty grocery stores close to the house in Tremont and Southwest Harbor.

We had a wonderful time in this home during our week long visit to the quiet side of Mt. Desert Island. Absolutely beautiful flowers and plantings surround the house, and there is a great deck which we used to eat and to look at the stars. As two couples we shared the space quite easily. The kitchen had everything we needed for cooking and we made use of the outdoor grill. The home was sparkling clean and we especially enjoyed the art work, including several paintings by one of our hosts, Mary Ann. We were also impressed by the craftsmanship of our other host, Richard, who built the house. We really enjoyed canoeing with the canoe on the property. The home is well-located and we hiked daily on Acadia's trails. We recommend this home most highly!

We really enjoyed our week in Tremont. Mary and Rich were great hosts and made sure we had everything we needed. The Cove Cottage was beautiful and allowed us to feel at home while enjoying the quiet side of MDI. The property was great and we really enjoyed having access to a private beach and nature preserve which was in walking distance of the cottage. We hope to visit Cove Cottage again in the future.

Mary provided everything we needed to feel at home. The kitchen was well-equipped and the place was beautiful! The extra little touches (flowers, upgrades throughout the home, and quality decor) made us relax and enjoy our vacation. especially liked the reading nook and sleeping with the windows open- unheard of in NC. She also gave us good input on restaurants and hikes to try. We loved our first visit to Maine!
