Spacious, private, peaceful attic, with king-size bed, spectacular views, own shower/toilet, coffee and tea. Private parking space, bus from train station stops opposite back of house. 5 minute walk to town, voted world's 4th funkiest; big choice of cafes, many types and nationality of restaurants, Real ale, traditional or gastro-pubs, micro-brewery and wine bars, cinema, live music and comedy. Mountain cyclists mecca, walkers wonderland. 5 minutes to woods, fields and moorland walks.
Your bedroom is in the large attic room with comfortable king sized double bed, splendid views over the Calder valley to the medieval village of Heptonstall on the opposite hillside, and en-suite shower and toilet.
The three storey house is located on one side of a very quiet no-through road, its large garden is on the other side. A five minute walk downhill takes you into this historic town, full of chic cafes, art studios, boutique crafts, clothing and vintage shops, whilst a 2 minute stroll across the main road behind the house leads to a beautiful beech wood with walks in the hillsides beyond, though little walled fields and onto the wild moors.
Guests are welcome to spend time in the garden on sunny days. (Front room is temporarily out of action unfortunately)
Please note there are 29 steps in total from the outside of the house to your room, all have handrails but could be a challenge if you are not accustomed to stairs!
Please note check in and out times are a guide, happy to be flexible around this - just ask! You have your own shower and toilet accessed only from your room. There is a desk in the bedroom suitable to use laptop/do work, easy to set up (remove coffee and tea things from desk, add chair) and happy to do in advance on request. You're welcome to use kitchen and facilities, just let us know (unfortunately the cosy front room with sofas, piano, TV and real fire is temporarily out of action).
Potential second room ideal for children (when my son is away) with platform double bed and another double bed below. Currently used for storage, please give plenty of notice if you would like to use!
There are 2 spare car parking spaces available in the bay right outside the house. You can enjoy a picnic or barbeque in the large peaceful terraced south-facing garden, with lovely views. 2 adult bikes in rideable condition are also available to borrow, with helmets.
You’re welcome to unlimited coffee and tea at any time, and help yourself to breakfast available: usually cereal, fruit, yoghourt, home made bread, toast and jams.
Or we’d be happy to make you a full English breakfast for £5 pp: local dry-cure bacon, butcher's sausage, black pudding and eggs, with mushrooms, tomatoes, beans and toast (please give at least 24 hours' notice!)
Interaction with guests
I'll usually be around pottering, or working from home unless its one of my working-at-work days. I generally interact as much or as little as people want, I really enjoy meeting new people, just occasionally I have to focus on work if there's a deadline to meet.
Other things to note
As the attic is under the roof, there is one quite low beam in the bedroom - please mind your head!
The duvet and pillows contain feathers. If you have an allergy to feathers let us know in advance, as we can provide feather-free bedding on request.
This is our home, we keep it clean and try to keep it tidy but we hope you will excuse us when we lapse a little!
Only 2 rules: take shoes off downstairs, and no smoking in the house. Pets are welcome but preferably not upstairs.
We ask you on behalf of the planet to very kindly place only USED towels into the washing basket
I first fell in love with Hebden Bridge about 30 years ago, and like so many people, planned to stay a few years and then realised there is nowhere else like it and I couldn't leave! These days I'm lucky enough to also spend a few weeks a year in my 'second home' in Tucson Arizona, where my partner lives.
I work two days a week as a GP in a neighbouring town and also do some work from home, plus occasionally cooking mexican burritos and quesadillas in my kitchen to sell in Hebden Bridge. I am a member of a fantastic local drumming group called Drum Machine, so I'm sometimes away at gigs at weekends.
I love travel, and recently discovered Air BnB-ing myself, I've stayed in many in the last year, from Ireland to Mexico, all so different. I'm fascinated by meeting new people and getting to know the amazing places where they live.
I'm keen on music (though not much of a musician myself) but you're welcome to play the guitars, piano or ukeleles
