We bought the cottage in a run-down state in 2007 and had to completely renovate it. But it has thick stone walls and lots of character and is now very comfortable. We live here much of the time but need to rent it out to pay the mortgage!

The space

Old and beautifully renovated cottage in pretty small harbour town. Fantastic countryside and coastal walks.
Cottage only a few minutes from Bay and shops but set back with pleasant views of the fields etc.
Fire and Aga/Stanley, dishwasher, washer and dryer. Garage. Small garden and roof terrace.
Homely decoration and very comfortable.
Rates don't vary much because we don't charge extra for electricity etc, and bills are much higher when it's colder! We charge a bit more in July and August and at Christmas because we would like to be there ourselves.

The house is detached and is on a quiet road five minutes from Bantry town centre, where there are shops, pubs, restaurants, banks, a cinema and a very good outdoor market every Friday.

There is a regular bus service (Eireann 236) between Bantry, Cork and Glengarriff.

Guest access

The cottage is let out as a whole (three bedroom) house.

Interaction with guests

If I'm not around my friend Zora, who runs a nearby riding stables establishment, is always available for help and advice.

Check in is anytime after 2PM
Check out by 11AM

We wash sheets and towels and clean thoroughly between visitors but it helps if – as most people do – mess is kept to a minimum.

Dogs are not allowed as there is only a small garden and the fields at the back of the house are often occupied by sheep. Farmers tend to shoot on sight any dog seen worrying their sheep.

We had a lovely family break at Bluebell Cottage. This quaint cottage is right beside the town of Bantry, and it had everything we needed to make ourselves (family of five) feel comfortable. One dreary evening we lit the fire (Robert had kindly left out kindling and firewood) and played cards and board games around the fire. The kitchen is well equipped for cooking and there are even Cookery Books on hand for inspiration. Bantry has plenty of Cafes and Restaurants .Organico Cafe is nearby and their coffee and baked goods are delicious. The Friday Farmers Market there is massive and we came away laden down with yummy local produce. The surrounding landscape is breathtaking, we hiked the Cooryoomane Loop, the children took a surf lesson at Barley Cove on the Mizen Head Peninsula and crossed the Suspension Bridge, and visited Foto Wildlife Park. A visit to Bantry House and Gardens is worthwhile for the view of the bay alone as was the drive out to sheep's head. The cottage was the perfect base for us and we would love to stay again in the future.

Such a lovely quaint clean cottage. In the heart of the town yet felt like we were in the country.

We had a fantastic stay in Bantry at the Bluebell Cottage. The cottage is in a walkable location, central to all the pubs and restaurants in town - which made our stay most enjoyable. Robert was more then helpful in ensuring that we were well informed on the must see restaurants/activities within the West cork area. Overall, I would highly recommend a stay at this B&B if you are in the Bantry area.

Nice place, very charming, quiet, next to the city centre. Bantry itself is not so nice but all around there are plenty of beautiful landscapes to see.

We had a lovely stay at Bluebell Cottage. Robert made sure we had everything our family of five (including three small kids) needed and the cottage was spacious enough for all of us. The cottage is in a rural location next to a farm, but only a couple of minutes walk from the shops and everything Bantry has to offer. There are lots of local pubs serving fantastic food and the people of Cork must be the friendliest in the world! The lady in the tourist office was incredibly helpful and the walk along the river she recommended was one of our favourite things. Such a lovely, mountainous area. We'd recommend going to Bantry House if it's open. Loved hearing the story of the family there and it has a great tea room. All in all, a great stay.

This was the first time we stayed in a real Irish Cottage with the thick stone walls, slate roof, and and fireplace. The bedrooms were wonderful. One of them had its own deck right off the second floor. This Cottage was built into the hill that surrounds the town of Bantry. The Ambiance was just so Charming. We used the writing desk to plan our trips every day. Perfect light to read maps by. Just a short walk to the Quay with its shops pubs and restaurants. We hope we will be able to stay there again on our next trip to southern Ireland.
