The location was perfect for seeing the Sacred valley and transportation was literally right outside the front door

Without doubt, the whole family made my first trip to Peru one i'll always remember, and another reason to go back. 10 out of 10 :)

Our stay in Calca, at David's place was fantastic. We were warmly welcomed. The property is large, beautiful and very comfortable. The room in which we stayed was quite big and had very hot water (a luxury in most parts of Peru). We would love to have stayed for a few days or longer but unfortunately had only booked for 1 night! We hope to be back in this quiet, friendly town and to be able to stay at David's place again. Thank you!

Loved staying here - highly recommended for a delightful stay in the Sacred Valley. The beautiful garden is a repose for the soul. Mabel and David are warm, helpful and interesting - it's like staying with old friends. Loved Casita 5, with its 3 big windows with wonderful views. Particularly loved waking up to views of the garden and mountain ranges. Calca is very 'local' and not touristy. Pisac - an easy 15-20 mins (2 sole!) ride on the very regular collectivos (never seemed to wait more than a minute!) has more eating options than Calca (eg Ulrike's Cafe) but I enjoyed coming back to the 'real' town of Calca. Highlights in Calca were Mabel and David recommendations: the local market, a foodie's heaven; sitting in the garden at Apolo having delicious cerviche; and above all a moto trip to Urqo for a walk to the archaeological site and Inka museum. It was hard to find the path at Urqo at first, but once we did it was a splendid walk through a beautiful landscape. We ambled for about an hour before reaching the Inka museum, though you could do it much quicker if you wanted. Take plenty of water - very dry air! Next time would be interested in the Apulaya school. Thanks again David and Mabel for a delightful stay.

This is not just a rental property but also an oasis of healing and serendipity. Prepare to be loved by the kindest and most supportive family you may ever meet. The views are breathtaking. The rooms are gorgeous. The garden is splendid. The community is connected. The company is unforgettable. The Sacred Valley may change your life. I booked for a week and wished that I had booked two. You will not regret staying with David and Mavi. It was fabulous!

I stayed a month in two different rooms with David and his wonderful family in this charming compound. Magical garden, friendly atmosphere, beautiful hosts who now feel like family to me. Perfect place to base in the Sacred Valley. Easy to get anywhere on the collectivo for a sole or two (the public bus), and still be able to stay in an authentic, non-touristy town. Plus, the rooms were comfortable with plenty of hot water for showers, and the shared kitchen was kept neat, even when there were a number of guests using it. A very special place. Highly recommended.

I am a retired designer/builder of custom adobe homes from New Mexico, USA. I have a Peruvian wife and two small children. My bookshelves are full of books that reflect my interests in ethnobotany, ancient cultures, shamanism, architecture, religion and philosophy to name a few.
The first seven years of my "retirement" were spent traveling in South America and beyond with Cusco as my base. I then settled in the Sacred Valley and opened Casa Willkamayo for like-minded travelers.
