A unique 350 year old cottage in the stunningly beautiful village of Golant overlooking the Fowey estuary, complete with grand piano and many owls – a place for interesting people and fun times!

** Just renovated with new lighting, central heating, curvy walls, carpets and decorations **

What people love:
"The feel of the place, which for me personally was very resonant"
"Lovely little cottage full of old character, great views, good parking, excellent WiFi"

The space

Paradise Cottage is more than 350 years old – the oldest house in the village of Golant. It's made of cob – which is a technical term for rocks and earth – so the walls are curvy. It's where I grew up and where my bohemian parents lived – a place for music, conversations, art, poems. We've just refurbished it so all new lights, central heating, decorations and carpets!

Guest access

You can use the whole house. And the garden as well. There's a lower and upper (!) patio – with a BBQ. We keep the recycling in the garage.

Interaction with guests

Sarah and David from Kings Concierge and Property Management (based in Fowey 3 miles away) are around to make sure you're settled in a resolve any issues. I'm also around to respond to messages and chip in with ideas of stuff to do locally although sometimes during the working day I may not be able to respond immediately so it's usually better to contact Sarah or David first.

Other things to note

There is a patio above the patio by the kitchen. It is called 'Lovers’ Leap' (after the poem). You start to get a view of the river over the roofs of the houses in front of us – a nice place for a morning coffee or evening gin & tonic.

If you go further up the garden you get to have an even better view of the river and the village as a whole.

We always find it frustrating if we have to buy oil, salt and pepper etc when I’m travelling. So feel free to use ours – and the herbs and spices, and vinegar, sauces etc. There’s also tea and coffee in the cupboard to the left and above the stove. If you use any other food or drink please replace it.

There are other hints and tips on the ParadiseGolant page on the well known social networking site with initials F & B which you can find with any popular search engine!

On our drive to Bristol airport for the flight back to Ireland, I had a couple of hours to daydream and reminisce with my travelling companions about the time we had just spent in Golant, Fowey and Paradise Cottage. On the plane home and subsequent days I had some time to think about how I would write this Airbnb review. I was going to start this review by saying how beautiful, cosy, welcoming, atmospheric and historic this cottage was, and how friendly, chirpy, knowledgeable and helpful Patrick's correspondences were . I was also going to say how much we all felt honoured to be sharing, even for just a couple of days, the magical serenity of Paradise Cottage and the sweet silence of the village of Golant. I was going to mention the wonderful evening spent in The Fisherman's Arms having the craic (in the Irish language 'company'...but more of a feeling of fun, laughter, welcome and ease.) with the locals. I was going to say something about the walk through the woods to Fowey and the unforgettable day and evening spent drinking pink grapefruit gin high up on the terrace of the Fowey Hotel and later on gatecrashing a birthday party in The Ship Inn. I was going to finish by talking about the leisurely taxi ride back to Golant and the few nightcap bottles of craft ale on lovers leap sipped to the sound of an owl's call from the woods behind the cottage. But then I thought....never mind all of that. Just think on this. If you dear reader, are not mesmerized by Fowey, Golant and especially Paradise Cottage, you probably don't deserve to be on holiday.

Beautiful secluded cottage packed with charm and Golant is a picture perfect Cornish fishing village with a great pub and a cafe. You can walk into Fowey (a lovely walk along the Saint's Way) or it's a short drive. Fowey is a gem of a town - utterly lovely and still unspoilt. Paradise Cottage is an ideal base for exploring Cornwall or just escaping to.

We had a really good time, cottage was comfortable, quirkey and full of character. It was very well equipped and had more than just basic materials for our use The garden is steep (we were told!) but worth going to the top for views of the river and if it were summer we could have had a glass or two on the upper terrace. Dog friendly village. Pub and all people we met were very friendly and welcoming; high tide in the village was very interesting- swans swimming on the road!! Thank you Patrick, Everton and Sandra for a very enjoyable break

This is a homely and unique cottage in a lovely location. It is a bit like staying at 'Mum and Dad's'. Patrick responded instantly to any queries and made us feel welcome.

Fab, relaxed, dog friendly, people friendly village. Set on steep hillside, so wouldn't suit less agile folks. The cottage is homely, very relaxed, all we needed for a lovely break!

The house is an old cottage. Very cosy, with wonderfull lighting. The village on the banks of River Fowey is really authentic and quiet. If you want to be away from hustle, go to Golant.
