Our space is a quiet bedroom with its own bathroom so that guests can get a peaceful night's sleep and a refreshing shower before coming through to breakfast in either our dining room or the conservatory.

The space

We will be delighted to welcome you to your own roomy, self-contained accommodation which visitors tell us is excellent for a good night's sleep.
We can fit a blow up bed for a child at the foot of the double bed on request.
Our guests will have access to the bedroom and bathroom in our modern 'west wing' and the large conservatory as well as our rear garden. Our chickens will be happy to meet you.
The kitchen is limited to breakfast and microwave use. We offer accommodation on a bed and continental breakfast basis.
There is an electric piano in the bedroom and we would love to hear it played but please check with us first.
We are retired but have a busy lifestyle. We enjoy meeting new friends and chatting so please don't hesitate to ask about the history of the area and the village, or anything else of interest. We'll be very pleased to find out what you like to do and try to help.
Woolpit is a well known and highly sought-after village with good facilities including two grocery stores, a garage and filling station, hairdressers, bakery, tea rooms, post office, gift shop and fish & chip shop. We also have two pubs, both serving food.
The church is famous in East Anglia for its double hammer beam roof and wonderful carvings. We also have the legend of the green children and Ladyswell among other interesting features to share with you.
Woolpit is only five minutes from the A14, which makes for easy travel between the Midlands, Cambridge, Ipswich and Felixstowe. We have good parking facilities.
The village is on a bus route providing services to local towns.
The nearest railway station is Elmswell (10 minutes) and we may be able to collect/deliver you there if we are available. Trains run between Cambridge and Ipswich and the London terminus is Liverpool Street.
We live in a bungalow so access within the main building is fine, although there are steps at the entrances. Derek is on hand to help with any lifting.
While we stipulate arrival and departure times this is only so that we can clear up and replace bedding and towels etc for successive guests. If no other guests are due the timing can be more flexible if requested.

Derek and Betty are a lovely, friendly couple. We (and our dog) were made to feel at home straight away. They went out of their way to make our stay special. A beautiful little village and the house is in a great, quiet location .

A lovely spacious room with tea and coffee facilities. The bed was comfortable and I had a great night sleep. The hosts Derek and Betty are a lovely couple who made me feel very welcome in their home. I booked it for a local wedding and it was very close to the station as well as where I needed to go. I would definitely recommend them if you are staying in the area. Thank you very much for taking care of me.

I booked Derek and Betty's place for a one day/night stay in Woolpit in order to attend a big birthday celebration party nearby basing my choice in the vicinity of the accommodation to the location of the party. Being an airbnb host myself here in London, from day one the communication with Derek was pretty simple straight forward. Always ready to answer any questions you may have. The place is exactly like the photos show and the description too. The bed is comfortable and the room is all clean, welcoming and very silent too. What it doesn't say and will leave you speechless is the warm welcoming you will find in this hidden gem. Derek and Betty alone would be the reason to simply come back! Derek was so courteous and kind that came to pick me up at the station and drive me to and from the party! This alone was priceless!! Thanks Derek! The best was the breakfast in the morning served and enjoyed in their special company in the garden. They did say "we want our guests to come as guests and leave as friends"... What a great way to receive people in your own home. I can tell (whoever reads this review) that if you are looking for a place to stay, want to relax, be spoilt with attention and enriched as a person , then look no further. Book Derek and Betty's place immediately and you will not regret it! May 2017

Staying at Derek and Betty's was truly a wonderful experience. Their friendliness and warmth made it feel more like a home away from home than a stranger's house. Their home is in a quiet village and felt incredibly safe. The room was light and airy, the bed was very comfortable, the bathroom had little toiletries for us, and everything was very clean. The breakfast that was provided was simple and filling---cereals, croissants, fruits, and juice. Derek and Betty were incredibly friendly and chatty, but not at all intrusive. They went out of their way to look up some area attractions that we had mentioned being interested in which we found to be very thoughtful. I would absolutely stay with them again or recommend them to someone else going to the area.

We're a retired couple living in, for us, the perfect place: the Suffolk village of Woolpit where we've been for 40 years. It's a friendly and busy place with all sorts of clubs and activities and we have many friends here.
We have two daughters, each married and each with 3 children so that's enough to keep us busy. We also have chickens at the bottom of the garden and they're great fun too.
Betty is a churchwarden at St Mary's, Woolpit. Derek is a Buddhist. Despite the difference we fully support each other's spiritual lives.
Derek loves BBC Radio 4, books and writing, Betty loves helping people and cooking. We both enjoy a good film, meeting people and having family and friends to dinner.
Over recent years we've been lucky enough to travel to many parts of the world and we hope we've been good and friendly guests. We hope to enjoy welcoming others as guests in the same way.
If we did have a life motto, it would probably be friendship and kindness to everyone.
