Dappled sunlight through a vine-covered terrace, a commanding view of one of the most beautiful hamlets in France. This 300-year old stone home in the centre of La Roque Alric retains the taste of traditional Provence, with all the modern convenience

The space

With 18-inch thick stone walls and exposed oak beams, Le Sousto is aptly named by the ancient Provençal word for refuge. The entire second floor of a 15-room mas, quiet, private, spacious. The living-dining room has a working fireplace, stereo with CDs, well-stocked bookshelves. Kitchen includes a dishwasher, gas range, pantry stocked with cooking essentials. The master bedroom has a new queen-sized bed, quality linens, an en suite bathroom renovated with marble tiles, a two-person tub and shower. The second bedroom (off the dining room) has a double bed, exposed stone walls. The vine-covered terrace overlooks a flower garden and the village below. Fresh veg and eggs available in season from our friends. La Roque’s only commerce is the lovely Acacia restaurant, offering delicious Provençal lunches and dinners, outdoor dining. A great getaway with just enough buzz to make it memorable, this is a house with its soul intact.

Guest access

The entire downstairs apartment is your private space along with the shady terrasse. The lower garden is shared with the upstairs.

This was a perfect location as a base for bike riding in this area, including Mount Ventoux. Leave the car in the parking (100 m. away) and ride from the front door. At night, come back to this charming well equipped apartment, make some supper and eat it on the cool, small porch. Light some candles and relax. Drink wine from Chateau Juvenal in Hippolyte. It's all perfect. Just understand that the nearest bakery, bar or grocery store are all a car ride away, but that's no big deal now that you know. There is a small local restaurant with restricted hours. But it's very quiet and private. But why not go to Les Geraniums at Le Barroux and have a supper on the terrace? Or go to one of the other restaurants within 10 km. This place is perfect for two couples with a car. Next time we're bringing our wives and staying for a week.

Wonderful place to stay at Provence. Very nice and quiet village. Away from roads and the rest of the world

The apartment is in a beautiful village and is full of character. It is a great location for climbing in the Dentelles. The fridge was stocked with food when we arrived which was helpful as there is no shop in the village. There is a good restaurant next door.

We stayed for one week in this really outstanding flat, which is in a roughly 400 year old house in the very small, but beautiful town Last Roque Alric. The surrounding area offers many options for hiking and sightseeing (you should check out the nearby hills; it is also possible to climb on the rock of La Roque!). The flat used to be the home of the owners of the house, a very friendly couple from Canada. It is greatly decorated, with antique furniture and paintings from a local artist. From the small terrace one can overlook the valley and hills. Talia, who manages the flat and the owners, Marianne and her husband, were very kind and even invites us for wine and olives- thanks again! We definitely hope to come back one day!

We really enjoyed the beautiful unit and location in a picturesque village. Great location near Vaqueras and Gigondas. Wonderful quaint restaurant right in town. Unit was very well stocked, roomy, sunny, and quiet. We'd love to return for much much longer next time!

Talia's place was perfect for the 4 of us. Great location, away from the tourists still close to everything the region has to offer. A car is essential if you're staying here. Since the house has only 1 bathroom inside the master bedroom it wasn't very convenient for us staying in the 2nd bedroom. Talia was kind enough to let us use her bath which was r tiny yet functional. all in all a great stay.
