If you want to learn about Italy's people, history, culture or politics, then stay at Villa Cardinal! Gianni is a warm, welcoming and fascinating host who is always available to drive you to the centre of Tivoli, or the metro, or Villa Adriana or wherever! Villa Cardinal is about 5km down the hill from Tivoli itself, however the bus stop is 50m from the gate and the bus ride is a real adventures as it winds up the hill. However, buses are a bit inconsistent, so don't hesitate to ask for a lift. Our apartment was up four flights of stairs, with living area and one of the two bedrooms being air conditioned. However just swing open the shutters in the morning and evening to let in the cooler air and birdsong. We were greeted with complimentary soft drinks, cheese, ham, yoghurts, brioche, coffee and a fine bottle of red, and after we had settled in we made our way downstairs to enjoy fabulous pizza in the family-run and funky restaurant. There's an OK small supermarket about 10mins walk away and the apartment has a gas stove and good-sized fridge, and has plenty of room to spread out and relax. Gianni is the first to admit that his Villa is not in the middle of Tivoli and is on a main road, but once you're behind the front wall you'd never know! We based ourselves there for four days and after being dropped at the metro station, Rome itself was only 20-30 mins away. If the express bus decides to run, the trip to the metro takes 20 mins. If you're flying into Rome,it's definitely worth spending the 40 EUR to have Gianni pick you up and bring you to the Villa. You'll learn more about the area during the drive than you would out of any guidebook. We'll definitely be staying there again to enjoy the roomy apartment and the true Italian hospitality of Gianni and his lovely family.

We had a very nice stay at Villa Cardinal. Giovanni was very helpful and the apartment was very comfortable. It might be a little difficult for seniors as it is on the fourth floor but overall we we felt very welcome. The apartment is in a good central location. Thank you Giovanni for your hospitality!!!

I'm Giovanni, former ALITALIA flight attendant for 21 years mainly on long howl flights: I have been in san diego calif. in my twenties and still got very good friends over there.
the place in wich I was born and live is a nice area, easy access to rome, easy to reach from freeways.
the house is well built and kept, sorrounded by a nice private garden with a small pool cool and refreshing during the summer !!!

Actually I'm a CPA, working for public and private Companies, joining a rilevant social club.
I like to play the piano and love classical and jazz music; travelling is my sport and it's nice and interesting for me to have guest coming from all the world.
I can give you some good tips about everything going on in the area or in the rest of italy and helping you will be my pleasure,
