A mini apartment within the clock tower apartment at St Pancras Station, with its own en suite bathroom and kitchen and sitting area. It sits in Sir George Gilbert Scott's gothic revival railway hotel building from 1868. Ideal for 1 week holidays.

The space

The apartment is in the clock tower above St Pancras International Station. This guest suite with a double bedroom on the 4th floor looks out over Kings Cross Station. The apartment has another double bedroom, also on the 4th floor being used by the owner or by other guests. This guest suite has all its own facilities not shared with others including in addition to the bed, a living area, a small kitchen/dining area and its own bathroom and shower.

As the apartment is on the 4th and 5th floors and fully equipped with secondary glazing, the road and railway noise is very low and almost nobody notices it but I would advise delicate sleepers to be aware of it before booking.

The suite is available for short or long-term letting and ideally suits couples on holiday in London for a few days or a week.

There is additional bedding available by prior arrangement if one or two others want to stay but THIS NEEDS TO BE DISCUSSED WITH THE OWNER AT THE TIME OF BOOKING. Clean towels are provided as standard as are soap/shampoo.

This listing is very heavily booked but it may be worth looking on my other listing (ST PANCRAS CLOCK TOWER MASTER SUITE) which is for the master bedroom which I let out when I am not using it. The main difference is that you would then use the main kitchen on the 5th floor. Or contact me with an enquiry and I will let you know.

Little things are provided in the apartment, such as a hairdryer, international plug adaptors and umbrellas. Let me know if you need London Oyster cards for public transport (electronic cards for you to use and top up) or a UK SIM loaded cellphone.

The clock tower was designed by Sir George Gilbert Scott like an Italian bell tower but never held bells. The clock never has and does not ring. On the 5th floor, the clock tower room's height lends itself to some extraordinary events. See YouTube for a video of an aerialist on a rope (Gisele Edwards) or a silk rope artist (ErialC).

Guest access

This listing is for a suite best described as an apartment within an apartment. It is for a 4th floor bedroom with double bed, en suite bathroom, en suite kitchen and sofa and table and TV. There is central hi-fi throughout the house and a hifi jack in a wall in the room. The kitchen is small but adequate for small meals, breakfasts and microwaving food.

If there are more than 2 of you or you want a different bed arrangement from a double bed (eg extra mattresses) please discuss this in advance with me before booking. As there are a lot of stairs and hazards, I really prefer not to take bookings with children under the age of 9 unless they are very closely supervised by their parents.

Please be aware that you will be sharing the flat with the owner or with other guests. The photographs also show the 5th floor Tower Room. Occasionally the flat is used for day functions, evening pop-up restaurants or photo shoots but I shall try to inform you of any such appointments. Both bedrooms have en suite bathrooms and lockable doors for security. The main clocktower room is upstairs on the 5th floor in the flat and if it is not being used you are welcome to pass time in it, subject to liaising if there are other people staying in the flat. It is also sometimes used by local community groups but I will let you know if it is.

I am as flexible as I can be on arrival and departure but it is essential that visitors consult me on and keep to their plans, so that I can manage my cleaner and bed changing and make sure there aren't two couples competing for the same bedroom at the same time of day.

I have marked it as handicap accessible. It is not straightforward (there is an extra elevator to use) but easy to sort out as long as I know in advance so I can give the instructions clearly.

Interaction with guests

I am not always at St Pancras because I spend a lot of time up in Cambridge where I am finishing the restoration and conversion of some buildings going back to the 16th century. I try to diary to meet my guests if I can but if I am not there when you arrive, the concierge will supply you with the key to the apartment.

If you want to hold a celebration party, please discuss it with me and please be fair to me in following the basic rules. Any events going beyond 2230 normally require a booking to be made for the whole apartment as it is otherwise unfair on other guests. There may be an additional charge for holding a party depending on the scale and duration. A 500 pound security deposit will normally be required for any groups in excess of 20. The main rules are that loud music does not go on beyond 2330, that guests do not mill out into the corridors of the building, that there is no glitter/confetti/paper string and that you agree to pay for any extra carpet cleaning required by large numbers.

Unfortunately we have had a few guests take advantage of us and I do therefore take the time to agree a clear timetable both for the party and for the clean-up. I expect guests to adhere to this not only for my benefit but also for the benefit of the neighbours.

Other things to note

This is a great building to stay in. Please do respect the fact that the building is home to many other residents and be careful not to disturb them if you are taking photographs in the common areas.

This spare bedroom is for guest use as it is more like a self-contained flat. The rest of the house should be respected, though it can be freely used when the host is out. Please don't touch the books apart from those in the guest room. The host does a full clean and will tidy up any leftovers in the fridge after you leave.

Please take off outdoor shoes before going down to the bedroom.

Please - no smoking inside the flat.

Please use the words "long corridor" in your first message to me, so I can appreciate that you have read these notes.

You must also acknowledge
Must climb stairs - Entry is on the 5th floor (elevator accessible) but bedroom is then downstairs on theh 4th
Potential for noise - About 5% of guests notice the rumbling of trains (just normal for the centre of large cities)
Pet(s) live on property
No parking on property - I can arrange with neighbors sometimes to get a parking space for 25 per day
Some spaces are shared - The main clock tower room is shared with me or other guests and occasionally we hold functions there

This was a short holiday for my wife, daughter (4) and myself. We had a great time. Super friendly and accommodating hosts. We wanted to arrive a little early, no bother to them and keys were left at the concierge desk just in case, but they were also there to greet us. (The lads at the concierge desk were also gents) The place was very clean and had rather well stocked cupboards. Little bottles of wine, biscuits, tea and coffee… all you’d expect and a lot more (and all well in date). Never got to fire up the stereo system, but they have Rogers Export Monitors [BBC LS3/6 “ish”]. Broke my heart as I was trying to wangle a Harbeth Super 5 audition while I was there, alas – not possible with a 4 year old, probably for the best with my skinny wallet. We really had a ball and the place is obviously epic on a grander than grand scale. Location couldn’t be better… 20 mins walk to a decent Harbeth dealer (kidding. But it is). 2 mins walk to the British library (Daughter announced after 5 minutes “this is boring”). Thankfully the 7 stories high Hamleys toy store is 10 bucks away in a London cab. British museum is about the same distance (****ing amazing museum of a life time – allow 2+ days to do it properly). We also did London zoo, not as polished as Dublin zoo, but you can’t beat a live butterfly tunnel, walk in spider enclosure and a merry go round! (although 80 bucks in and the total day stung me for circa £140!). Tips: down stairs there are 2 M&S’s a biggy and a small one. If you’ve a nipper, McDonalds is within sight of the apartment . Out the main door to the right about 20 yards is a half decent Pizza Express. Irish pub across the road. The square in front seems to have what looks like a cracking food market (mid week). Summary – Amazing!

The tower is amazing place and Peter is a great host. When we arrived, everything was ready for us. The location is perfect, the view is amazing and there is even a piano if you have someone to play it with you. I can definitely recommend anyone staying there and would like to return myself some time again.

When I first came across the Clock Tower on Airbnb a number of months ago I immediately added it to my bucket list. Thankfully I had the opportunity to spent three great nights in the Guest Suite earlier this month. The apartment is perfectly located adjacent to the historic Renaissance Hotel with wonderful views of the London skyline. Unfortunately I didn't get to meet Peter during my stay but the communication prior to our arrival was seamless. I look forward to visiting the Clock Tower again in the future.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this unique location, so very convenient for international travellers in particular. Proximity to rail, tube and bus is excellent. Plus having a forecourt area for taxi or private vehicle arrival is unique in busy central London! Our thanks to Peter for his generous hospitality!

If you appreciate a spectacular view, easy access to the tube, and staying in an iconic piece of England’s Victorian history then this is an ideal apartment for you. The small kitchen was equipped with everything we needed and the stand alone large bathtub was an unexpected and very pleasant surprise. Peter was easy to contact and a wealth of information and the concierges were very helpful with bag storage. Looking down at the hustle and bustle of King’s cross station and occasionally catching the lilting voices of street performers were only a couple of the many memories we’ll carry home. Can’t wait to come back.
