Description

The space

This cosy, modern living space is ideal for a single, couple or young family. The peaceful, rural setting, has enchanted our guests. surrounded by rolling green hills with a beautiful view of Leinster's Blackstairs Mountains, you are within easy touring distance of Wexford, Wicklow, Kilkenny, and Carlow towns. The famous Altamont Gardens, haunted Huntington Castle and brewers of the tasty O'Hara's Beer are close by.

A fully furnished cottage (kitchen, bed & bath linen, etc) and breakfast starter pack (milk, bread, butter, eggs, coffee, tea, sugar) are part of the package.

We like to greet you and will give you as much guidance as you seek. Otherwise, we tend to let guests do their thing.

You'll need wheels. Most people prefer a car to a bike, as Ardattin is the nearest village (3km), with Tullow, Clonegal, Bunclody and Carlow offering a huge range of shopping, restaurants and other attractions within a 10-20 km radius. We are near the River Slaney with 3km of river beat and woodland for our guests to explore. Fishing (trout and sometimes salmon) is popular on the Slaney, from March-August - please enquire. Riding, golf (Mount Wolseley), micro-brewery, haunted castles (Huntington, Shankill), award-winning gardens (Altamont, Hardymount), and kayaking (via a local outdoor adventure company) provide a surprisingly rich and diverse set of activities for our guests - though many opt to relax by the stove and enjoy the quiet!

Guest access

You'll have the house and garden at your disposal. Three km of private Slaney river beat and ancient woodland are just down the hill from you - not always fully accessible in summer. Parking right next to the cottage. Recyling / composting area is tucked just behind the adjacent granite wall.

Interaction with guests

Our cottages are self-catering. We're 500 m down the road from you, and on the phone; if you have questions and are happy to guide you, and we'll stop by from time to time to mow and see how you're getting along. Otherwise we tend to leave our guests to do their own thing, which is what most of our guests seek.

The neighbourhood

Peace. Views. A bit on the wild side. Sheep, horses. Organic hay fields. A resident yoga teacher. The perfect place from which to tour Carlow, Kilkenny, Wexford, Wicklow, Waterford, beaches, historic sites, breweries, shopping malls... and then come home to rest.

Getting around

We recommend having a car, though we can highly recommend cycling as a touring option, and occasionally guests have relied solely on walking and cycling. We are 3km from the nearest village, Ardattin, with several other towns and attractions between 10 and 50 minutes' drive (Clonegal's Huntington Castle, award-winning Altamont Gardens, golf resort Mount Wolseley, riding schools, kayaking, the historic towns of Kilkenny and Wexford, etc).
Buses run from Tullow (8km from here), buses and trains from Carlow (25km from us).
Taxis are available.
Please see our Airbnb Guidebook for more information on local things to do.

This is a great rural place with lots of rustic charm. The Shed has most everything you will need. It is located about 1.5 hours southwest of the Airport, but most of the way is on excellent highways. The roads do get narrower as you get nearer the property, ending in a two-way, two-track. This is an excellent place for a writer or someone who really likes to get away from it all. Pam and Tom were excellent hosts and gave us great tips.

Tom and Pam were both so kind during our stay in the shed. Lovely holiday rental, far from the madding crowd.

We stayed in the Shed for the first 2 months of our stay abroad in Ireland and I can say that we’re more than happy that we chose it! Pam and Tom are perfect hosts (!), who made us feel home from the first day on and were extremely kind, easy-going, caring and easily reachable all the time. We loved chatting with them when they were around and are still very thankful for everything they did to make us settle in so quickly and feel so comfortable. We totally fell in love with the Shed and its interior furnishings (which are perfect for a longer stay), the large garden and all the beautiful surroundings (that we totally enjoyed!) and already miss it. Plus, we even were allowed to invite friends from Germany, who also loved it. Thanks again for everything and, as promised, see you again! All the best from Robert & Laura

Pam and Tom have been the hosts one can wish for Christmas! They have indulged us with a warm welcome and care that was present throughout our stay. Pleasant welcome package, beautiful Christmas decoration. Well-equipped house, a lot of games for children. The Shed was just as we have imagined based on the ad / description. The location is rural so yes, you'll need a car to access anything. Save the riverside wilderness that is a lovely walk even in rainy weather. We were able to rest a lot and relax despite the squeeze we have been through. Good value for money. Peaceful environment.

We initially had planned to stay five weeks at the shed, but extended the stay because we loved it so much! The shed is homey, clean, and overall a fantastic use of space. We really bonded with the insects and birds in this rural setting - and even got to know ourselves a bit better in the quietude. Pam and her family are very kind people. They were easy to reach and always available to help if anything came up. Of course, nothing really did come up - but we were sure to make up reasons for Pam or Tom to stop by so we could enjoy a bit of good conversation, and (+fingers crossed+) - a head of lettuce from their garden!

Mom of four, yoga teacher, lover of walks in the woods. We try to communicate clearly what it's like living in our beautiful rural spot, and hope our guests love the place for what it is: an increasingly rare clean-air, clean-water (both cottages have their own well) place to potter around and relax. Writers, teachers, artists families and executives all seem to revel in the "slow holiday" aspect of the place.
