Beautiful area

This home is in a scenic location.

Valley view

Soak up the view during your stay.
Welcome to this sweet two-story cottage, a rural escape with stunning views of the rolling green Leinster hills. We're very near Carlow's most famous places - Huntington Castle, Rathwood, Altamont Gardens and more. The two-storey open-plan layout gives ample space for two or for a young family. You'll be at peace and in comfort.

The space
This modern living space is ideal for a single, couple or young family. The peaceful, rural setting, has enchanted our guests. surrounded by rolling green hills with a beautiful view of Leinster's Blackstairs Mountains. You are within easy touring distance of Wexford, Wicklow, Kilkenny, and Carlow towns. The famous Altamont Gardens, haunted Huntington Castle and brewers of the tasty O'Hara's Beer are 10 to 30 minutes' drive away.

A fully furnished cottage (kitchen, bed & bath linen, etc) and breakfast starter pack (milk, bread, butter, eggs, coffee, tea, sugar) are part of the package.

We like to greet our guests and will give you as much guidance as you seek. Otherwise, we tend to let you do your thing.

You'll need wheels. Most people prefer a car to a bike, as Ardattin is the nearest village (3km), with Tullow, Clonegal, Bunclody and Carlow offering a huge range of shopping, restaurants and other attractions within a 10-20 km radius. We are near the River Slaney with 3km of river beat and woodland for our guests to explore. Riding, golf (Mount Wolseley), micro-brewery, haunted castles (Huntington, Shankill), award-winning gardens (Altamont, Huntington, Duckett's Grove), and kayaking (via a local outdoor adventure company) provide a rich and diverse choice of activities for our guests - though many opt to relax by the stove and enjoy the quiet!

Our rural landscape provides shelter to all kinds of wildlife, and sometimes farm animals too (usually sheep, sometimes ponies). We do not use any chemical sprays in the garden. Despite thorough cleaning, it is possible that a harmless bug or spider may find it's way in. Feel free to ask us if ever you need help in this regard.

Guest access
You'll have the house and garden at your disposal. Three km of private Slaney river beat and ancient woodland are just down the hill from you - not always fully accessible in summer. The parking area is shared with other guests, and you can pull up right next to the Shed. Recyling / composting area is tucked just behind the adjacent granite wall.

Other things to note
Electricity is not included on the basis that we give generous discounts for longer stays and allow guests to manage their electricity usage. We take a meter reading and charge actual cost that we are billed for (there's no gain for us). Note that Irish electricity fees can be higher than other countries.

There is a wood burning stove which gives wonderful warmth, with a good supply of beech twigs available on-site.

There is no rubbish / recycling removal service available here, so guests are responsible for managing their waste. A composting bin is provided and recycling / rubbish amenities are well explained on arrival. The civic amenity site (landfill) is about 15 minutes' drive, on the main Carlow road. 40kg is €12. Guests usually need only one trip there per month.

A service fee of €50 is applied if guests leave rubbish behind, to cover our costs.

Please feel free to ask questions prior to booking.

Thank you.

Business
Welcome to Ballin Temple. We have been running the Ballin Temple estate organically since 1999, and we hope our guests love the place for what it is: an increasingly rare clean-air, clean-water (our cottages have their own artesian wells, and the water tastes wonderful) place to potter around and relax. Writers, teachers, artists, families, entrepreneurs and executives all seem to revel in the "slow holiday" aspect of the place. As an Airbnb guest myself, I know how important it is to create a home away from home for our guests, and make every effort to create a comfortable and practical space.
