Welcome to Whin Cottage, a cosy stonebuilt home on the South West coast of Arran. Dating from 1900 when it was used as a farm, it looks out over fields to the southern Arran hills. Whin is a perfect base for experiencing the great variety of Arran.

The space

Whin Cottage is a delightfully upgraded detached farmhouse set in open countryside above the hamlet of Sliddery. A cosy home from home on the south coast of the Isle of Arran. The cottage has 3 bedrooms sleeping 6 (NB. in 2 doubles and 2 singles), and benefits from views over the rugged South Arran hills. You can travel to the cottage by car or use the excellent Arran bus service which meets all the ferries. *Please let me know if you are travelling by bus and I can give you timetable links and further information.*

The open plan living area is naturally lit by day and snug by night. It has a multi fuel stove (with supply of logs and coal); DVD player (plus eclectic selection of DVDs) and DAB radio with ipod dock, books and games for after dark entertainment.

The kitchen is well equipped with a Rayburn (for hot water and cooking), a Smeg gas hob, a microwave, a slow cooker, a double sink and a fridge freezer.

With beautiful views across the hills, the recently built conservatory provides a space for “dining with the wildlife” with French doors leading out to the patio. The table can be extended to sit eight.

The garden is mainly lawned with a patio and outdoor furniture. A large barn adjoins the cottage housing the log store, laundry facilities and a large ceiling-mounted clothes airer, with plenty of room to store bicycles and other sports equipment. There is a table tennis table ,portable barbecue and small table football in the barn too.

Cars can be parked on the hard standing at the side of the cottage.

Our local beach is a short drive or 20 minute walk away.

Our cottage is an ideal base from which to cycle, walk, watch the abundant wildlife, tour ancient sites, enjoy the quiet and beautiful sandy and rocky beaches or just soak up the peace of the countryside. A great all year round destination.

**PLEASE NOTE the rates shown on our calendar are for short stays, out of high season, stays of a week are priced lower ie we will give you a custom price as appropriate. We don't tend to do stays of LESS than a week in high season, when our changeover day is a Saturday, unless of course we have last minute availability. But please ask anyway, you never know!!**

Other things to note

If you are staying for less than a week we would just remind you to bring personal towels. Should you wish to, bath towels and facecloths can be hired for £3 per person.

Fantastic trip - just as one would imagine Scotland to be, but one day even with sunshine. Totally recommended for anybody who would like some quiet time in a beautiful landscape

Whin Cottage is the epitome of cosiness. What a beautiful place. To us it was just perfect. Beautiful, comfortable, (URL HIDDEN) amazing place. The best detox for a family of Londoners and to reconnect without screens, playing cards, writing, drawing, playing games or watching movies. Have breakfast watching sheep should be prescribed! We will not forget our holidays and we truly hope we can return. We are so grateful for our stay we can't recommend it enough!

Lovely, secluded location for some peace and quiet on Arran. Lack of wifi and phone service was made up for by ample board games, DVDs, and great fireplace. All that we needed was available in the cottage and the kitchen was very well equipped! Enjoyed sitting by the fire and relaxing.

This is a beautiful little cottage in a quiet, secluded spot. It's very well equipped and is ideal for a family. Arran is a great place to go on holiday. There's so much to do and the kids were always entertained.

Fantastic little hideaway on Arran! Great amenities. So quiet during the evenings - you might as well be in the wilderness! We absolutely loved it. Minor point: the bedroom above the Rayburn stove gets absolutely roasting at night - put some ice in your hot water bottle!

Mother and teacher. I really enjoy travel, meeting interesting people and the challenge of learning languages. Walking, tennis and cycling keep me from seizing up, but I am at my happiest sitting out in the evening sun.
