A licensed self-contained apartment in town ideally situated for access to many interesting destinations.

The bedroom has a top of the line Beauty Rest mattress that provides a firm but comfortable experience.

Living room has a fold out sofa that can easily accommodate children (stay for free) or a third adult (extra fee charged). A baby crib available upon request.

Unlimited high speed internet access on a fibre optic connection from Bell Canada is included and TV with over 190 channels.

The space
The Building and Planning department from the Town of Huntsville has inspected the self-contained private apartment under S.T.R. requirements and approved its usage for such purpose and issued a licence to that effect.

This apartment has all newly appointed furnishings, appliances and tableware.

Professional cleaning and sanitizing protocol of the unit is adhered to.

A unique feature of the space is access to a private library in its own room next to the bedroom. There is a selection of over 500 books and magazines covering a wide range of topics. Not as many as your public library but with eclectic reads you may find it just as interesting during your stay.

Complimentary coffee pods are provided for your morning java as well as a selection of teas.

The decor in the unit is on the minimalist side with just a couple of wall paintings and some smaller prints.
If you so feel inclined, when renting longer term, bringing personal decor that suits your taste is acceptable. We just request that no nailing or other methods of fastening be done that might leave new holes in or marks on the wall.
Of course, don’t forget your personal decor when checking out.

We hope that you find the space calming and relaxing.

It is suitable for either the professional individual doing their rounds or a couple wishing to “getaway” from it all. In either case, by taking advantage of this little gem, some good memories are inevitable.

Total privacy and quiet is assured when staying in Serene Escape.
We will do our best to make your stay positively memorable or at the very least an agreeable one.

Although the unit is located in town there is natural untamed beauty on the property. A small ravine at the back has a protected cold water stream which supports spawning fish and other natural wildlife such as frogs, turtles, the occasional otter, squirrels, skunks, deer, and migrating birds.

A fire pit suitable for a camp fire is located next to the stream on the property for activities such as a marshmallow roast. Just be aware there are mosquitoes, hornets and other insects in this naturally inhabited area which may not be agreeable to all individuals. We recommend that everyone, especially small children, use suitable precautions against insect bites or encounters with wildlife that might be negative. In view of these risks a release form needs to be completed before accessing the ravine including the fire pit. This is mainly to acknowledge the possibility of negative encounters with nature as being acceptable.

Available for our adult guests at no additional charge is access to a nearby coed gym open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week located less than a five minute drive from the apartment approximately 4km distance.
The gym has all the standard weights and exercise machines of a typical gym with the added feature of a tanning bed and a hot sauna room. However, in an abundance of caution, the health department has prevented public use of the tanning bed and sauna temporarily for now due to COVID-19 concerns. The main facilities are available without restrictions but only for advance booked times.
When accessing the gym for the first time an introductory tour of the facility is needed and a standard liability waiver signed. Afterwards, bookings are made electronically specifying the time and date desired in advance. Entering the gym is done by swiping an electronic card provided for self entry.

A section of the Trans Canada Trail is located close to the unit and it stretches clear across Canada. It is recognized as the longest multi-use trail system in the world.
At a more local level we have Arrowhead Provincial Park (7km North from the apartment on Hwy#11) with a delightful trail, beaches on the lake and available canoe rentals among other pastimes.
A little further out of town on Hwy#60 you’ll find the world renowned Algonquin Provincial Park with its many day and overnight hiking trails.
Additionally, a mountain bike trail, opening to the public this October with the usual challenges for a trail of this nature is located at Hidden Valley just 5km outside of town. It is being provided by the municipality and others on a gratis basis. Use it for the challenges a trail like this provides or just to walk through it and be amazed by the obstacles a rider will encounter.

A unique Canadian honour for the Town of Huntsville, at a global level, was to host the G8 World Leaders Summit Conference in 2010. Within a ten minute walk (at the NE intersection of West Rd. and Centre St. N) from the apartment an official public parkette is maintained by the municipality having all of the participating country’s flag on their own assigned flag pole and a plaque. The parkette has some muskoka chairs and bench for sitting with a lovely flower garden around it and an open grassed area. A nice picture taking location to send to friends at home.

[V]
For people interested in Canadian art history an outdoor art museum featuring reproductions of some well known artists from an earlier time and part of Huntsville history is on display year round. A number of the now famous Canadian artists referred to as the Group of 7 used Huntsville as their staging area to celebrate the natural beauty of the Muskoka and Algonquin areas producing some of the most iconic art work that Canada is famous for. Throughout Huntsville and nearby a public display of their works as a Mural Collection can be enjoyed. For more information take a look at the website “go7murals.ca” for guided details of this unique outdoor public art gallery.

[VI]
Another unique and interesting look into the past is Pioneer Village and a real Steam locomotive train ride both located in town about a five to ten minute drive from the apartment. In Huntsville’s pioneer village you will see how early settlers made a life for themselves in the area and you can marvel at the difficulties people endured and the little conveniences that made life bearable for them. My guess is that you will be thankful for what we do have.
A must visit if you have the time and inclination. You won’t be disappointed. An entrance fee is charged for a guided tour.

When the Algonquin Theatre reopens, once the COVID-19 pandemic is beaten, some great Canadian talent is featured for lovers of the performing arts. As a side note, Shania Twain, early in her career held performances in the Huntsville area.

[VIII]
There are many good restaurants in and around Huntsville ranging from East Asian to Indian, and European right up to the typical American dinner plate. Of course for a quick bite most of the fast food classics are represented around here.
As a treat for the beer connoisseur there are some interesting boutique brewers in the area as well as one artisan brewer right in town with a beer garden to enjoy their product. And of course there are some nice pubs around town in which to savour available brews.

[IX]
Getting around town is probably easiest with a car when going to most venues, however, if the destination isn’t too far and the weather is favourable you may find that using one of the three bicycles available here at no charge to be an exhilarating experience if so inclined. Some roads in town have designated bicycle lanes making it safer to get around.

Other things to note
The laundry room has a large capacity washing machine and clothes dryer available for two days a week during rental periods of one week or more. Mondays and Thursdays are the two days when laundry room is open but this can be changed. With shorter duration bookings access is made available upon request at no additional charge. The laundry room is private with its own entrance from within the apartment. Laundry detergent is provided free of charge.

Huntsville, Ontario, Canada

The apartment unit is located on a quiet cul-de-sac with very little road traffic and virtually no noise.

Parking on the property is available for two vehicles.

Use of the fire pit for camp fire activities on the property has certain restrictions. Please advise if you intend to have a camp fire. Unfortunately, for the next few weeks access to the fire pit isn’t allowed because of the high water levels that have resulted from excess rainfall recently.

The Muskoka region is considered one of the most naturally attractive areas in Southern Ontario. Great for aspiring nature photographers and for those who just appreciate nature’s beauty.

I'm semi-retired living in Huntsville ON for the past 12 years. My wife has a local business providing spa services. Prior to retiring I worked for a global oil service company that sent me to the four corners of the world under different work contracts. It was very interesting work and I had the opportunity to meet very interesting people. An education in and of itself.
