Private charming family cottage on the St. Mary's River/Sugar Island is equipped to meet all your needs. If you are looking for the perfect get away, you have found it. Just 5 miles from the ferry for easy access.

The space

Built by my grandparents, this cottage continues to represent their interests from the original antique rattan furniture and much of the décor.
The cottage sleeps 6 with 2 bedrooms, comfortable new double beds and 2 twin beds located on the front porch (linens & towels supplied, down comforters available). The kitchen is fully equipped with microwave, gas range, coffee maker, toaster oven, BBQ, ice in the freezer, paper towels and everything you might need.
Drinking water provided, as cottage is plumb with river water.
The front porch extends the length of the cottage for continuous breathtaking water and sunset views. There is a brand new fireplace insert and wood, which will keep you plenty warm on chilly fall days. Wood provided/available.
Responsible children are welcome, but parental guidance and respect for family heirlooms and furniture is requested.

Guest access

There is a canoe, kayak, life jackets, and bicycles are all available.
Sorry, at this time there is no internet connection, cable or TV. There is a TV, which is connected to a DVD player for movies.
There are also fishing holes between the islands in front of the cottage, but you must bring your own supplies.
Island has to local convenient stores for basic needs and avoiding a trip up town.
There is a community park with swings etc. about a 1/4 mile walk down the road. Older children can use the canoe and explore the islands (we used to camp on them as children).
There is a fire pit down by the river with wood in located near the pit.

We had a lovely stay with our three boys at Twin Ducks Lodge. Nancye clearly communicated the details before we got there. The property was clean and comfy, inside and out. The kitchen had everything we needed and more. Beds were comfy. We used the canoe and kayak to explore the river, which felt more like a lake because the current was gentle. It was a special experience to stay on Sugar Island, and the ferry was dependable. We felt like we were away from everything, but we weren't very far from shopping and restaurants. We would love to return someday.

The cabin and grounds were absolutely beautiful. We loved how secluded it was, how easily accessible the water was, and how well kept the grounds were. We loved using the bikes and boats, and we really hope to return someday. A great experience and a great value.

Thanks. So glad you had a great time. Hopefully, next time the water will be down and the fire pit available for evening fires.

Lovely spot, house is very comfortable and user friendly, great communication with host. Being on an island makes the vacation experience feel that much more fun. There were three of us but the place could easily sleep two couples and two others in beds on the glassed/screened front porch. Recommend highly.

Nancye was a wonderful hostess. We really enjoyed our week on Sugar Island. The kids enjoyed kayaking, canoeing, hiking and playing at the nearby playground. The water was too cold for swimming, but they tried! We highly recommend Nancye's cottage if you are looking to get away from it all.

Came here for family trip with parents and adult children. Sugar island is very secluded and beautiful. Very easy to get on and off the island. The cabin is so nice and well equipped, was very nice to have to have kayaks and bicycles to be able to use. Nancye was very helpful with everything we needed. Would definitely come back.
