Location

Hackettstown, New Jersey, United States

Hackettstown is located in a really beautiful part of northern NJ with its spectacular rolling hills and lots of greenery. Most importantly, people are very friendly and neighborly.

There are 4 excellent restaurants in Hackettstown:
1. Topo – great Vietnamese food
2. Pandam Room – great Thai place
3. Fujiyama Japanese restaurant – great sushi and hibachi place (The owner, Nick, had a restaurant in the World Trade Center before 9/11).
4. James on Main – local chef who learned his trade in SF and then decided to come back to Hackettstown. It is impossible to get reservations, however.

There are also 2 great breweries in town:
1. Man Skirt and
2. ZigMeister – nice outdoor seating area. Used to be a Ford dealership.

Supermarkets:
There are several supermarkets nearby including Weiss and Walmart but really the one that everyone goes to is ShopRite in Mansfield (town next to Hackettstown) as it has the best selection by far.

Biking:
Columbia trail – about 8 miles away from our house you can park your car and then take your bikes and ride on an old railroad bed for ~40 miles (we never reached the end of it). It is very cool. At night you will be able to see the ghost of the railroad lantern man from the 19th century. He still walks the non-existent rail tracks to check their condition.
Shades of Death Road (no kidding, this is the name of it) – you can leave our house on your bikes and ride to the Shades of Death Road and the Ghost Lake (kayaking there is popular). From there you can ride to Jenny’s Jump State Park (Jenny was being chased by the natives in the 19th century and instead of allowing them to capture her she jumped from a cliff).

Water Sports:
Lake Hopatcong – this is the biggest lake in NJ, and it is about 15 miles away from our house. You can rent a boat there or just visit the local bars/restaurants and take a water taxi between them.
Delaware Water Gap – beautiful area where the Delaware river crosses the Appalachians. There is really good hiking there but if you cross to the Pennsylvania side you will encounter plenty of places to rent a tube/canoe/boat to go down the river. It is an incredible fun! We have done it many times. (You don’t need to bring the tube back upstream; you just leave it at a certain spot downstream).
Kalahari water park in PA – this is the largest and newest indoor water park in the USA. It is about 45 min away from our house.
Dorney water park – older but great water park in PA. About 1:15 minutes away.

Skiing:
Our house is about 45 minutes away from the major ski resorts in the Poconos, PA (Camelback, Big Boulder, Blue Mountain).

Other:
1. Crayola factory is about an hour away in Easton, PA.
2. New Hope is a very cool town in PA that is about an hour away
3. If you are into ATVing or dirt bikes there is a mile long, private track through the woods I can point you to.

Hope you will have a lot of fun!
