Comfortable, modern holiday house with most conveniences. Great kitchen, comfortable beds & furniture, free WIFI, plenty of off-street parking. Quiet with mountain views.
This is a very comfortable, modern holiday house with most conveniences.
The main living area combines a full-sized kitchen, dining & lounge. While you prepare dinner in the fully equipped kitchen, the other guests can gather around the granite-topped island & join in. The kitchen has a built in oven, ceramic hob, extractor & microwave. The dishwasher, dual sink & waste disposal are built into the central island. The pantry has a decent supply of plates, cups & glasses etc.
There's a 6 place dining table & the lounge features a large comfortable leather lounge suite. We've got a flat-panel TV, DVD player & FreeView. You can bring movies on a USB stick & plug them into the TV.
Sliding doors open out to the front & back decks. The two biggest bedrooms & the study also open to decks.
The bathroom has a sliding door providing access from the master bedroom through the walk-through wardrobe. So it's almost an en-suite. The bathroom has a proper tile and glass shower.
If you want to combine a bit of work with pleasure, the study has a decent sized desk. You can connect to the Internet via wireless or cable.
There is also a fold-up bed if needed.
While we live in Christchurch (a couple of hours drive from Kaikoura), our neighbours help us manage the rentals, do cleaning etc. So there's a reasonable chance that someone will be on-hand should there be any issues.
Interaction with guests
You will have the house to yourselves - we will be 2 hours away in Christchurch. However, our neighbours in Kaikoura will have your details and will be able to assist in an emergency.
Other things to note
There won't be anyone to greet you on arrival - entry is by key that you will retrieve from a lock-box.
Also, while there are non-perishables such as tea & coffee, we don't supply milk, bread etc.
EARTHQUAKE UPDATE (15 Jun 2017):
Our house was not damaged in the November earthquake and we are accepting bookings again. Most shops & restaurants are open. Most tourism companies such as Whale Watch and fishing charters are open.
The crayfish fishery has been reopened, following surveys that have determined that crayfish numbers have been largely unaffected. Likewise, fishing is unaffected. The collection of shellfish (e.g. Paua) has been banned to give numbers a chance to recover.
Make sure you understand the upper South Island road situation. The only roads into Kaikoura are from the South - the inland road and the coast road. If you are coming from the North, it is a long drive - I do not recommend driving from Nelson or Blenheim in one day. Also, the coast road is being closed periodically to facilitate the road repairs. See the NZTA website for the latest info.
Do ask if you are unsure about anything.
No smoking, no pets and leave your shoes off inside.
We clean after you, but we do expect you to leave the place reasonably tidy, with the dishwasher & washing machine on. If you use the oven or BBQ, please leave them clean.
You must take your rubbish with you. Kaikoura does not have a rubbish collection service, as part of rubbish minimisation initiative. You can drop your waste into the recycling centre, which you will pass as you leave Kaikoura.
