The Girasole room is located in the Santa Croce district, in the historic centre of Florence, in a fully renovated condominium apartment on the second floor, with two other bedrooms, with which to share some common spaces, such as a kitchen and bathroom. It overlooks a very quiet and low-traffic road. The well-appointed space enjoys ample sunshine throughout the day.
The space
The room is spacious, bright and has a balcony. The central area, a stone's throw from Santa Croce, the Duomo, Palazzo Vecchio, Bargello and the Uffizi is one of the most characteristic in Florence. The popular area has partly maintained its characteristics. In the Middle Ages area of one of the most famous convents such as Santa Verdiana, Santa Marta, Le Murate , Le Oblate today transformed into a University, a Literary Cafe or a Library with a Bar overlooking the Cathedral (not to be missed). From convents the first three became prisons, from places of penance thus transformed into places of punishment. The Walls are an example of popular construction, in the historic center, non-speculative and excellent restoration having maintained the structure of what was the prison until the eighties. In addition, outdoor courtyards and indoor entertainment halls, usually free of charge. Visitable, with guided tours of the "Duro" prison, for the most serious crimes. A place not to be missed located between Via dell 'Agnolo and Via Ghibellina. Finally, Le Oblate in front of the Hospital of Santa Maria Nuova, a real museum, also accessible and not to be missed. You can freely access it to enjoy, better in the morning, a bar inside overlooking a courtyard where the botanical garden was recreated, once the excellence of the hospital, founded, thanks to the Tata di Beatrice Portinari (the woman loved by Dante Alighieri). The Hospital was connected to the Oblates through a tunnel, still visible on the square in front, as the nuns were nurses and workers in the laundry room of the current library. The bathtubs and the altana where the sheets were dried are still visible.
Santa Croce is also the district of the three religions, the Church of Sant'Ambrogio, not touristic but rich in remarkable works of art, the Synagogue that stands with its elegant green dome and the mosque, a garage, in Borgo Allegri. Not far from the renovated Piazza dei Ciompi with the Fish Lodge, originally in the Old Market, after the demolition that was done to create Piazza della Repubblica. Finally, the characteristic Market of Sant'Ambrogio, food and clothing still very popular and non-tourist, somehow opposite to that of San Lorenzo even though built by the same architect.
