The second floor of the historic CC Sargent Store in friendly Cookeville, Vermont, a village in the farming town of Corinth. Hear the cows and an occasional rooster; wander on our country lanes or hike the forested trails.

The Cookeville Post Office is the heart of the hamlet. It operates downstairs during limited hours.

The freshly decorated apartment is colorful and cozy, with a sitting room, dining area, kitchenette (no stove), desk, bathroom and three bedrooms. Contact is about pets.

The space
Good to know:
This is a “take a break” place. No cell service, the Wi-Fi is slow, but there is a flat screen for your chrome cast or our DVDs. There are games and walks, but no glitz or glamour! Second floor access - not handicap accessible. Please, no smoking here.

Guest access
The second floor is yours, with lots of privacy.

Other things to note
For skating, I encourage you to try the 4.5 mile skating “tour” on Lake Morey in Fairlee. (See the NYTimes article on2/11/20). Access the lake and rent skates at the Lake Morey Resort. https://www.lakemoreyresort.com/activities/winter-activities/

As for cross country skiing, it depends if you have equipment. If you do, we have back roads and snow mobile trails where we all just go out. In Vermont, all land that is not posted “no trespassing” is available for recreational use. There is a golf course at Lake Morey, and miles of snowmobile trails. If you wish to rent equipment and ski on groomed trails, you may wish to travel an hour north, to Stowe, or an hour south, to Woodstock.

We have plastic sleds and plenty of hills!

Most fun in good snow is volunteer run Northeast Slopes - open when there’s snow Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday. They don’t rent equipment, but tow tickets are $15. Decent burgers for lunch! https://northeastslopes.org

For meals:
We stock some simple toaster and microwave breakfast food. Note: there is no stove! The Fairlee Diner near Lake Morey is heaped with local “color” and reliable eggs & bacon, about 30 minutes away.

Dinner: Bradford, VT -25 minutes —is the nearest location with restaurants. If you like stone-oven pizza or Italian food then Colatina Exit works (https:/colatinaexit.com). A new restaurant, The Little Grill, prides itself on Brazilian BBQ. For reservations 802.222.5400– it can be crowded. For more upscale dinner, I’d recommend Ariana’s at the Lyme (NH) Inn (45 minutes- https://arianasrestaurant.com) or eclectic but delicious Peyton Place (https://www.peytonplacerestaurant.com/#welcome) also 40-45 minutes. Just for fun: artisan local brews and awesome burgers at The Worthy Burger in South Royalton VT (a pretty drive through tiny villages on Route 110) https://www.worthyvermont.com.

There are many more offerings in Hanover NH home of Dartmouth College or Montpelier VT the state capital (both about 50 minutes). That’s where the bookstores and movie theaters are too.

There is a big grocery store, Hannafords, with a deli and hot food options, near the Bradford exit on I-91 (open until 9pm). Pizza at the Waits River General Store and basics at the East Corinth General Store - both on Route 25, about 15 minutes.

PLEASE let us know about when you’re arriving. We would like to be around to welcome you.
Please download directions to before you leave Interstate 91. You will lose cell service enroute.

We are across the green from the village history museum, the town hall and an award-winning dairy. We are 20 minutes to swimming, local ice cream and maple creemees, and the nearest grocery. A great place for on road biking and very close to VAST snowmobile trails that connect all the way to Quebec! The longest distance skating track in the country, at Lake Morey, is about 25 minutes.
