Secluded walk-out lake retreat on a private peninsula. Located near stores and the Wax Marina. This area is called "Wax" and is easily accessible from both I-65 and the Western KY Parkway. If you are looking for a nice private location near Mammoth Cave you found it!

Please note that we are on Central time.

The space

Walk-out level "apartment" has bedroom with queen Tempur-Pedic bed, full bath with heated floor, large open area with media center and wet bar. There is a queen sleeper couch to accommodate 2 additional guests. There is also an outdoor shower for your use during the warmer months if you are so inclined.

There is an outdoor grill with side burner (No stove/oven), microwave, toaster, beverage fridge, small refrigerator and freezer, ice maker, Keurig® coffee maker and bar sink for preparing simple meals. There is also a small fire pit just outside your door - great for making S'Mores!

Guests have a private entrance and can wander the yard and down to the farm. Cat, chickens and dogs provide hilarity and a hammock hidden in the woods overlooking the lake is the perfect place for a nap in warm weather.

I am the only full-time resident of the neighborhood. The people in the neighborhood are very friendly. I also own the farm as you enter the neighborhood. A stocked pond is available for fishing and the farm is there to explore and enjoy.

No public transit is available, but we are just a mile from gas, groceries and the Wax Marina

My property has water on 3 sides, it is located back in the woods and is very private. Perfect for a little quiet and solitude.
There are many places to visit nearby. Mammoth Cave, the world's largest known cave system, is a 35 minute trip by car. Make sure you check for cave tour reservations prior to booking. Just a few miles away is Cub Run Cave. Glendale is a 30 minute drive and provides the Whistle Stop Diner and several antique shops. Of course the main feature is Nolin Lake. Boating, swimming and fishing are close by. We are less than an hour from some of the top Bourbon Distilleries (Maker's Mark, Jim Beam, Heaven Hill and several others) if you have time, they are worth the trip!

Guest access

Guests have a private entrance and patio area. A key code is provided upon booking via email.

Access the apartment via the sidewalk/steps on the left side of the house.

Interaction with guests

I live on the top floor and am usually available. I will have as much or little interaction as the guests prefer. I will typically meet you, give you a quick walk through and answer any questions you may have. I am around most days if you have any questions or concerns and always available via text.

Other things to note

There are several restaurants within a 20 minute drive. The motel (Nolin Lake Lodge) has a restaurant in season as well and is close by.

If you are going to Mammoth Cave, please make reservations prior to finalizing your booking. The tours fill up fast, especially in the summer months. They do provide online booking of tours on their nicely done website.
When booking, please remember we are on Central time.

What a wonderful spot. We really felt like we had escaped. Bill's place is gorgeous. We plan to return as soon we can. I attempted not to eat the cookies Bill made but couldn't resist; they're all gone.

This was a fantastic stay. We felt right at home as soon as we met Bill and his 4 dogs greeted us with warm cookies. If you are looking for something private and secluded this is the perfect place. It is deep into the hills of beautiful Kentucky. We had roasted s'mores, we grilled steaks. Everyone is so sweet, local food was delicious southern food and never disappoint. We visited the Mammoth Caves which I recommend, such a cool experience and you are only about 35-40 minute drive from. Bill had everything you needed, even directions, the menus, and the names of the restaurants around the area. It was perfect. We recommend this place to anyone who loves the countryside and wonderful people and hospitality. You will be taken great care of here! We will be back!

Bill's place was brilliantly clean, fully-stocked, and entirely comfortable, with exceptional views off the peninsula. We really enjoyed our time at his place. We will be back to Mammoth Cave, and we will be staying with Bill.

Wonderful place to stay. We really couldn't have asked for a nicer place. Felt like a home away from home on our visit to KY. Spent our Sunday morning after hiking in Mammoth eating homemade cookies courtesy of Bill, drinking coffee from the Keurig, and watching Stranger Things. If you want to feel like you're being taken care of at an affordable rate stay at Bill's Wax getaway.

Response from Bill:
INGREDIENTS: 1 1/2 cups (6.6 ounces) all-purpose flour 1 1/4 cups (5.6 ounces) bread flour 1 teaspoon baking soda 1 teaspoon baking powder 1 teaspoon fine sea salt 2 sticks unsalted butter, at room temperature 1/2 cup granulated sugar 1 1/4 cups packed brown sugar 2 teaspoons vanilla 2 large eggs plus 1 egg yolk, at room temperature 2 cups semi sweet chocolate chips DIRECTIONS: Preheat oven to 350ºF. Line baking sheets with nonstick baking mats or parchment paper. In a medium bowl combine the flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. In the bowl of an electric mixer beat the butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until creamy, about 2 minutes. Add the eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Add the vanilla Gradually beat in the flour mixture. Stir in the chocolate chips. Wrap dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 24 hours but no more than 72 hours. Let dough sit at room temperature just until it is soft enough to scoop. Divide the dough into 3- tablespoon sized balls and drop onto prepared baking sheets. Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until golden brown. Cool for 2 minutes before removing to wire racks to cool completely.

What a beautiful property! Bill has everything covered to meet your needs. The bed was super comfortable and it was nice that there was a TV in the living room and one in the bedroom. My husband and I don't always want to watch what the kids are watching. If you want to build your own fire, there is a fire pit right out your front door. There is also a bigger fire pit with lots of seating around it on the side of the house. We drank our morning coffee there every day. If you are looking for great accommodations in a beautiful area, this is the place.
