About this listing

Beautifully restored Pre-Famine cottage. Listed on The Financial Times as a tranquil escape from the bustle of modern life. Rural setting surrounded by lacy stone walls, secluded gardens, and still on the outskirts of the cultural city of Galway.

Guest access

Own entrance to private cottage on the site, with private garden and secure parking

Other things to note

As the cottage is a retreat place, we don't believe in providing Tv or Internet. Many of our guests were very pleasantly surprised of how much they have actually relaxed by spending time talking by the fire, play board games provided or simply reading. Trust us it works!

Our hosts were humble and kind. The brown bread which was graciously left by our hosts was the best my wife has ever had. The eggs, milk and tea and never ending turf was a lovely surprise. We will be back, hopefully sooner than later and are recommending this lovely wee cottage to our family and friends.

The property was gorgeous! So magically charming and peaceful. Exceptional views and cozy accommodations. Delicious breakfast and great conversation with hostess Paula. I very highly recommend a stay here.

This cottage is in a great location for exporing Galway, and all things north of Galway. Our host was subperb.

What a wonderful stay! This home was exactly what we were looking for to complete our trip to Ireland. Loved the landscape and scenery. The thatched roof cottage was amazing inside and out. Loved our stay here and Romain and Aileen are very friendly and accommodating.

Too noisy, bedroom is right above a parking lot that is used at all hours of the night. Regardless of the description it is not secluded. There are 3 properties almost touching each other, no privacy. There were a lot of spiders and the smell from the fireplace is overwhelming. We were really looking forward to a romantic getaway with privacy, this was not it, sorry.

Response from An Buntsop Cottages:
Hi Allen, Thank you for your review. We are obviously very disappointed that you felt your experience was so bad. As you can see from the many previous reviews we are not used to such negative feedback. We wish you could have told us on the couple of occasions we met you outside asking you if everything was ok. We are obviously going to take your feedback seriously such as making it more clear on the website that the cottage is not isolated, we didn't realise it may not be clear as no one mentioned it to us before, so thank you for pointing this to us. I am however struggling to understand about the cars driving in and out at "all hours of the night". As far as I remember during your stay, the latest you could have heard a car outside was on the Monday when I came back from work at 10pm and I'm always cautious to drive in slowly so not to disturb people. Regarding the spiders, we are always making sure the place is cleaned between each stay, however during the summer season and being in the country side, we can't stop them coming in during people stays. Being a 300 years old cottage, we understand the style might not be for everyone, we like to offer an authentic Irish feel when people come in to the cottage, the big open fire place is such a big part of it and it didn't obviously appeal to you and we are sorry we failed to deliver the quality of stay that many people praise us for. We wish you all the best in your future travel. Kind regards Romain

The most important thing for us is warm Irish hospitality which we
have been complimented on many times.
We are a family business and started our great adventure in 1990 when we first bought the property.
All the cottages were ruins and we restored them very carefully throughout the years trying to respect their history and authenticity. Of course we had to add the modern amenities for your comfort.
We promise to deliver warmth, relaxation and reconnection with yourself which makes this place so unique.
Enjoy!
Deirdre, Aileen and Romain.
