Featured in the Irish Times, Independent & sustainable building websites; this unique property is all about traditional Irish culture, heritage & passionate craftsmanship. Quiet, cosy and romantic, it boasts many authentic features (cob walls, open fireplace, exposed beams) that transport you back to old Ireland! Includes modern conveniences for comfort. Great central location in beautiful countryside - ideal for exploring Ireland's gems. This isn't just a place to stay - its an experience...

The space
Unwind, relax and kick back in this very special property. If you're intrigued by Irish history and want to experience old Ireland, or if you're seeking artisitc inspiration - this place is for you.

Authentically furnished with pretty patterns and traditional textures, the cottage has three bedrooms and can accommodate up to five people. The kitchen is well equipped and the bathroom cosy with a large shower. The main living area is true to traditional form: stove fireplace, drop-leaf sliding dining table (to create space for Irish dancing and singing), timber mezzanine walkway, Irish trinkets on shelves, exposed beams, curved cob ceilings, cute sash windows and the famous Bodhrán (Irish musical drum). All this, with the sensitive introduction of modern conveniences to ensure a comfortable, safe, enjoyable stay.

With links to the Irish Department for Culture and Heritage, it's the only rentable thatched cottage in the whole of County Longford! Renovated using century-old techniques, local building materials and labour, you'll be able to touch and smell 24" thick walls made from mud and straw. You'll be able to experience living under a thatched roof made from Irish reed; make your own fire in the stove fireplace by hand selecting your Irish turf blocks from the 'home-pile' and experience the aroma of burning peat - a familiar smell for Irish inhabitants for thousands of years.

Intimate tours can be arranged with the host (popular stonemason, poet and history buff) who can answer most questions about local and Irish history - a rare character. He can also show you his private collection of traditional Irish farming implements (free on request), the Haggard (on-site arts/entertainment space, on request) and if you ask...he'll even demonstrate the Bodhrán drum!

Freshly ironed bed linen, extra towels, blankets and basic toiletries provided. Free off-road parking (up to 4 cars). Alternative sleeping arrangements and camp bed can be organised on request

This is 'the' quintessential, immersive, Irish experience.

Guest access
You will have exclusive access to the whole cottage.

On request, you can be shown the owner's mini-museum (traditional farming implements) and 'The Haggard' - the owner's arts/entertainment hall. You can be shown around parts of a working farm (on request, subject to availability) Washing machine in adjoining building (also with use on request).

Other things to note
Totally unique property. No TV distraction, but wi-fi available so you can keep in touch with your folks back home. 'Creatives', philosophers, families, fun-lovers and explorers - you're all very very welcome.
