Small town Minnesota living 30min from the Twin Cities (and Mall of America and airport), stay for a rest in a grand old Eastlake inspired Victorian home or take a walk out the door to play in town made great with community, antiques, and music. This is a vacation rental or temporary furnished lodging, cleaning and upkeep during stay is responsibility of guests.

The space

Baby Bear room has a twin bed that is just right. Vent by door, moderate temperatures with other guests, this room and Papa Bear are the warmest in winter, and coolest in the summer.

Price includes parking, utilities, linens, toiletries, lawn care, and snow removal; let us know if you run out of something. Pricing is for this room, if you stay in a different room, appropriate charges will be assessed. Please leave the house tidy with linens and towels washed and folded on the beds.

House does not accommodate pets, illicit drugs, e-cigarettes, or smoking on the premises.

Side Note: My house is on the Anoka Ghost Tour; we can talk about it if you have any concerns.

Guest access

Communal spaces include shared upstairs bathroom, parlor with gas fireplace, downstairs tv with movies, Wifi, full access to kitchen, dining room, side porch, and yard. On-site laundry available. Linens, towels, hangers, iron and ironing board, and some toiletries provided, please replace what you use up or notify host of need to replace. There is no cable tv in the house.

Interaction with guests

I'm generally not at the house, and I will advise you when other guest will be staying at the house.

A house book is available in the kitchen describing amenities, operations, troubleshooting - she's an old house and has some quirks. Call or text if you need anything.

Additional cleaning services are available for an additional fee, I'll put you in touch with cleaning staff to arrange for services.

Other things to note

Two driveway spaces available (coordinate with other guests for rotating driveway access).

NO OVERNIGHT ON STREET PARKING IN ANOKA. Park in the driveway.

Old house - lead paints have been painted over and/or removed but may still be in home and on the exterior.

Guest must use provided salts and shovels in winter to remove snow and prevent ice on front, side, and back steps.

We get dry air in winter, it's MN, it's cold, we recommend not getting heat upstairs too hot or will dry you out at night and get a scratchy throat, drink plenty of water.

We get musty air in house, I open windows from time to time. Hardwood floors are cold year round, we recommended slippers or thick socks. There is a long-standing single spider ration in the upstairs bathroom, I don't know how they do it but there's usually one. Smoke detectors checked every two months like clockwork - if one of them beeps, there are spare batteries in the laundry area, where there's also a first aid kit, it's a fully functional and operational home.

I enjoyed my stay. My suite mates or nice and respectful towards me. Chloe and I (Abigail) helped each other often to keep the house clean. The other guest was a really nice guy, but he was usually busy at his construction job or lifting at the gym. The host is a really kind hearted host. She takes time to either call you to resolve issues when they arise or text see you to talk about the situation. It's usually resolved quickly and in a very professional manner.

This house is built in 1880 it is old, floors creak, but eclectic. Furnished nicely. Listed as a private room and bathroom. No lock on bedroom or bathroom and bathroom is (shared) with the other two rooms. Common areas are huge and contain different decor. Plenty of parking for multiple guests. A bit pricey for what was actually offered. Owner should list as haunted house because it is. Was supposed to be there for 5 months, there for only 5 days!!!! Just saying.

Response from Jessica:
Thank you for your detailed public and private responses, it will improve experiences for future guests. Pricing was reviewed and adjusted 8/13/17 for Baby Bear room. House is listed as being on the Anoka ghost tour, and town is the "Halloween Capital of the World", ghost stories from previous owners, and my personal experiences have always been pleasant. No one has ever had concerns about a ghost in my home in the 5 years I've been renting her. I understand and appreciate the spectrum of human sensitivities, and the house was cleansed addressing your concerns. Cleaning staff and current renter have not and are not experiencing any issues or entities. Baby bear room floor creaks between bed and dresser, this will be addressed. I'm happy to improve the lodging experiences of guests, thank you again for your input.

Jessica was helpful with everything. She wasn't at the home during my stay, but would check on how everything was going and if anything was needed. Super beautiful home and neighborhood. Would definitely stay here again!!

Jessica was one of the most helpful, communicative and flexible hosts I've ever encountered. She was so accommodating and good humored. I can't recommend her highly enough. She helped me sort out whether her place would be right for me and it was. The house itself is immaculate and well equipped. I had an extended stay while working a busy schedule in Minneapolis, so the drive back and forth was long, but the kitchen had everything I'd been missing from home and laundry and good light and good internet and cozy bedding and oooh! just everything you'd want to come home to. I came with my cats which is no small thing to ask of a host, and Jessica made it work for us. The place has good vibes. For several weeks, the cats and I had the run of the place, but another couple joined us toward the end and that was good in its own way.

My stay at Jessica’s place was pleasant. She is a great host with a personable touch. The home is spacious, charming and has all the amenities one could ever need. It was home for an entire month. The location is convenient to shops, boutiques and entertainment. Perhaps, I’ll stay again sometime in the future. Thanks for everything.

Born Upstate NY, moved about, TX, OH, NC, OH, I like small town living with the excitement of a big city nearby; walking around and knowing people, waiving, having conversation, meeting new people - all for grand adventures! I've found my small town living in Anoka, Baltimore, Wilmington - my little river/water cities, and spend time in bigger locations for new people, flavors, and adventure. I've traveled the States and Europe with Airbnb and enjoy the community, shared economy, and human commonalities.

My hobbies include travel, movies, kayaking, energy spirituality, marketing, business, cooking, photography, and writing.

When I travel I go for some novelty but also hit up one or two touristy sites. I travel for food, culture, and friends and prefer staying with friends or locals to get to know a place, to find small quality venues with local and historical character, or the perfect food item at the time...chocolate martini, beef wellington, oysters, crawfish etouffee, a great guiness pour, etc. I enjoy staying with others but at times value the flexibility of private space. I enjoy having a full kitchen or simple basics such as coffee and tea, clean linens and toiletries. I try not to spend too much time indoors and try to see as much as I can and relax when I get home; or sometimes I simply find a quiet spot by a river, take a walk, and take pictures.

I'm a warm Italian, sociable gemini with an inclination to feed anyone who comes into my home. I adore playing ambassador and helping others find just what they're looking to experience, as that's what I'd want for myself (at times). I look to provide a clean, comfortable, accommodating, and soothing sanctuary to come back to during your travels. I hope to provide an environment of freedom and flexibility with zero obligation; and hoping you will be respectful of the spaces as they are home to me.
