Dip your toes into the rural 1950's with a stay in our comfy, fully refurbished, airfloat caravan.
Set in its own private garden with bbq area , outdoor fire pit and dining table.
Collect eggs fresh from the chickens and don't forget to pet the pigs!

The space

This is a really unusual caravan that we imported from the States a few years ago and have tastefully restored. We moved on to our land in it 3 years ago - now its the home of my daughter though she is away for a while so I'm taking advantage!
It is a vintage ( 1957) Airfloat - a rival to the more common 'Airstream'. 1957 was their 25th year of production so all their trailers made that year were anodised in GOLD!!
It has a large (for a caravan) bedroom at one end with shower and basin but it has a dividing door and also a double sofabed at the other end if you need to sleep kids - or have had a row!
The toilet is a short, OUTSIDE , walk away and we also have another, larger shower available.
From June - September it is offered on a 2 nightly basis .
Book for 3 nights and recieve a complimentary £5.00 beer token to use in our local pub 'the York inn' as a thank you and a 50 p voucher to spend in the local farm shop...I know! woo!
Book for 4 or 5 days and get the 5th or 6 th day for free,-contact me and I 'll adjust the price.
20% discount if you book for 7 nights - the price will be automatically be adjusted by airbnb .
On one or 2 Sunday's each month our local banger racing stadium in Smeatharpe hosts a demolition derby or banger racing. Depending on which way the wind is blowing sometimes you can hear the cars. Not one of my guests has ever complained about this - some even go to the races, but I always feel bad about the disruption to our normally tranquil setting - so I have decided on race days to knock £10 off the price of your stay - . Look out for those discounted days!
Children aged 5 and under are free so don't include them in the booking - but do tell me in a message!

Guest access

Guests can access our iPod docking station,DVD player, dvd collection, books and games.
We also have table football, table tennis, a small pool table , a paddling pool and kids ride on toys available on request.
We now have wifi ( or ethernet) internet available IN the caravan and also a computer and printer you can use in the office if you dont want to bring one.
Dogs sadly are no longer welcomed unless they ve been before or have a proven track record with farm animals...we had a couple of incidents last year that I wouldnt want repeated.
Children 5 and under stay for free

Interaction with guests

We will be on the premises at all times but live round the corner so you can have as much privacy as you require...our dogs and cats are not so good at recognising private space but they are pretty bomb proof and can mostly be kept out your way. Newsflash!.... They've been getting rather spoilt by our guests and now assume you're all new best friends. If you're nervous of dogs please let me know and i can make an extra effort to stop them disturbing you.
We have 'things to do' leaflets ,maps , binoculars and guide books and can give helpful advice regarding local exploration.

Other things to note

Children 5 and under stay for free. Please let me know they're coming though .

Remember to let me know if anyone in your party is scared of dogs. Our dogs ( we have 3 ) are very friendly but i know they're not everyones cup of tea and can get over enthusiastic on first greet !

We provide complimentary breakfast of tea, filter coffee, orange juice, free range eggs, beans, cereal, toast and a selection of local jams and honeys though you are expected to cook it yourself!

Wood is provided for the woodburner or outside fire and we will light it for you if you prefer.

The BBQ is available for use but you need to bring your own BBQ charcoal- it can be purchased at the local shop.

The toilet is a 15 m outside walk away - we provide umbrellas at both ends in case it's raining .

Our overall experience of this stay was so positive - this is a unique place that not only lives up to, but exceeds expectations. Clare is friendly, welcoming and attentive - without being intrusive - a really great Airbnb host! The vintage caravan is based in a really quiet, rural location on the Somerset / Devon border in the middle of the stunning Blackdown Hills area - which was one of the reasons we picked it. Finding it was fun - with the sleepy lanes and backroads - but very easy. Clare's directions were spot on. We hadn't told our kids where we were staying so seeing their faces when they spotted the gorgeous caravan was amazing...they were lost for words. I was so impressed that the caravan and its lovely private garden / barbecue area was even nicer than the photos. Clare met us and showed us around - introduced us to the dogs, cats, sheep, pigs and chickens - and at this point my kids really nearly exploded with excitement. Clare couldn't have been more helpful - the caravan is so well kitted out and the welcome book covers everything. She talked us through everything and gave us a tour of the rest of the lovely property - so we would know where to find her if we needed her. The kids were amazed that they were allowed to feed the pigs, collect eggs and have the run of the place. There were even bikes, a table tennis area and table football.... We were thrilled with the sheer beauty and the fact that it had everything we needed and more. The attention to detail within the caravan was incredible - its a small space (as caravans are) but it was perfectly laid out, and so individually decorated. It really was true to its vintage roots. And seriously it had everything you could possibly need from hairdryer to sandwich toaster to kids games and great reading material. Having the television, radio and wifi completed it! (If the weather had been bad - and thankfully it wasn't - there was plenty to do inside for all ages). The caravan has a small shower - but to be honest we used the larger power shower in the barn which was 1 minutes walk away (as was the toilet). There was also a washing machine, microwave and other amenities we could use there if we needed them. Because of its location, the caravan was a great base for site-seeing - we have never fitted as much into a holiday as this! There was so much to see and do within an hour's radius of the caravan that there was no way we could get to it all! But we packed in a lot - with some great tips from Clare. I couldn't recommend it more highly!

Cannot rate Clare & G's accommodation and hospitality highly enough!! We absolutely loved the caravan itself, an amazing achievement of creativity and such a relaxing, laid-back atmosphere - loved sitting in the peace and quiet at the fire-pit in the evenings. The communication from Clare beforehand was excellent - friendly and informative (it was our own fault for getting lost!!), and we felt very welcomed when we arrived. There were supplies left in the caravan for us as well, which was great after a long day travelling. The whole property really is amazing, so quirky! I'd love to go back sometime if we were in the area again and would highly recommend the experience to anyone!

Massive thank you to Clare for a perfect stay at Magpie's Barn to celebrate my partners 30th. The caravan was just awesome, so cosy and everything we needed was there. The bed was super comfy and so lovely to wake up and hear the piggies outside. I could keep going but I'd be here for ages! Overall, LOVED it. And so did Jon. Thank you x

We had to drag ourselves out of the caravan as it was so cosy and fun to stay in but when we did, to explore the Black Down Hills, it was well worth it. Such a beautiful place to visit and explore. We will certainly be back.

Just so cool! A really unique and boutique experience. Unfortunately the night we stayed the weather was v much against us but with the lovely wood burner going the caravan was super cosy! Clare is a very friendly and helpful host and we had a great time, thanks again!

My husband and I recently moved to the countryside from Brighton so we're still at the beginning of our 10 year build plan!.....come back in 5 years and you won't recognise the place!
We're both very practical and hands on and do all the work ourselves though I have to give my youngest daughter some credit for the gardening and animal husbandry.
We're relaxed and easy to get on husband is passionate about war time memorabelia, steam trains and old vehicles ( motorbikes and trucks mostly) though I ll try n get him to keep the engine revving to a minimum whilst you're here.
I like chatting about just about anything but have a particular interest in the theatre, arts and travel.

Today's motto (since you asked!) is;-
Life isn't about waiting for the storm to learning to dance in the rain.
(These are 'the Blackdown hills' - you ARE going to get wet!)
