Location

Mossiface, Victoria, Australia

The Mossiface/Bruthen area is a great place to make your base for a few days. Bruthen and Mossiface ooze with history. Mossiface was home to the Mossiface Port during the 1800s which was an important service for the region, especially the Omeo goldfields, with goods arriving on the paddle steamers and produce sent to markets on return trips. Both towns thrived as a result of the traffic going to and from the Port.

Close by:-
Walk or ride the East Gippsland Rail Trail or checkout the Mossiface Bushland Park, all within easy walking distance.

Take a 7 minute drive to Bruthen - with the well known Bullant Brewery, Bruthen Inn Hotel, takeaway shops, general store , bakery, art galleries and antique shops. Try Bruthen's walking tracks and a swim in the Tambo River. A short bush drive will take you to Fairy Dell, a Dry Sclerophyll Rain Forest walk and picnic area.
Or if fishing is your thing it is a 10 minute drive to Tambo River for fishing. The Gippsland Lakes are less than 30 minutes away as is the 90 mile beach. It is 10 minutes to the nearest boat ramp at Johnsonville.

Bruthen is the Gateway to the mountains. It is approximately 1.5 hours to snow fields at Dinner Plain and Mount Hotham. Stop off at Historic Omeo on the way.

There are several excellent wineries inthe area and all are worth a visit. Ask your hosts for more information.

Every February Bruthen holds it's famous Bruthen Blues and Arts festival.

Buchan Caves are world reknown and a must do if staying for a few days..
Some other towns to visit are Lakes Entrance with access to the 90 mile beach, Metung and Paynesville.

Jeff and Joy have lived in East Gippsland for many years, in fact Joy grew up at Timbarra on the family farm. They now live in Mossiface near Bruthen and love the area. They cannot imagine living anywhere else. Jeff and Joy are a practical couple couple who love to have a project to work on. For four years they have juggled their paid jobs with building the Strawbale house at Timbarra and then renovated their poured earth building at Mossiface, now known as Gingko Lodge, a self contained, open plan lodge witha touch of luxury. The result is two unique buildings that are both comfortable and inspiring. Guests will love the beautiful textured walls, use of recycled and natural building materials and the general ambience of both buildings. Jeff and Joy have enjoyed adding lots of special touches that you will find as you explore either Timbarra Hideaway or Gingko Lodge.
