A wonderful place to relax and enjoy the beauty of the world around us. Come sit on the screened-in-porch and have a cup of coffee, curl up with a good book, or bring your paints and stay for a month--you will find inspriration everywhere.

The space

The Lake Grange is a unique home surrounded by woods and overlooking a small lake/wetlands area with beautiful gardens and extensive patio areas. We are located in the heart of Amish country, near Notre Dame, Goshen College and Bonneyville Mill, a large county park with an operating 100 year old grain mill. We have a large screened-in-porch that is a wonderful place to sit, read, listen to music or take an afternoon nap. In the winter the area is great for cross country skiing. The bedroom area is on a seperate floor with a private bath. Guests will have access to the kitchen, coffee and tea. The house was designed and re-invented by an artist and brick mason. Many of the interior rennovation projects utlitlized salvaged materials - slate from an old patio, beaded cealing boards from the Grange Hall coat rooms, and antique marble sinks. Come stay with us and enjoy the world around our home. We have another room available for friends and families traveling together who don't mind sharing a bathroom with friends. The additional room is $65.

Finding a place to escape to from Chicago, with less than a weeks notice was challenging. I kept getting turned down because others were leaving town themselves, or having family in to stay. Janis' beautiful home and add were right up our alley. It was exactly as she described and quite peaceful. We stayed flexible in arrival and departure times, as we were last minute bookings, but Janis was on board from the beginning. Her home was quiet, clean, peaceful and within walking distance of some wonderful locations. I have a mild to severe cat allergy, and I had NO issues whatsoever because the cat, Lulu who is a sweetheart, did not come in the bedroom or private bath. We made sure to keep the doors closed and two nights of sleeping, eating there (while taking my allergy medicine once a day) had no effect on me whatsoever. Janis was so sweet, writing us a great list of places to check out, and walks to take. We stated we were avid walkers, so she suggested we go to the Bonneville mill, which is almost a 5 mile walk round trip. My fiance and I LOVED the walk, all the animals, nature and very friendly Amish neighbors. When we came back from the Mill, Janis was pleasantly surprised, telling us that out of all her visitors, we were the first to take her up on that walking tip! We had nice conversation, that wasn't forced and Janis was able (I hope) to go about her day normally, while always checking to make sure we had what we needed. We had privacy as well as a wonderful trip advisor in Janis. Check out the Mill, the Fruit Hills Winery (didn't make it but it looks great), also head to Goshen and try Venturi (DELICIOUS Neapolitan pizza and hand crafted cocktails). Thank you so much Janis for welcoming us into your home!

We had a wonderful time at Jani's house. The place is hidden in the woods like it were a fairy tale. Janis is a terrific host. We spent great evenings together. She always had valuable tips and recommendations for our day trips. We would surely like to come back to her place some day. Whenever you are in Amish Country, be sure to stay at Jani's house.

I live in a very rural beautfiul part of Indiana with lots of trees, hills and little lakes. I am an artist and work in a flower shop. I teach a few classes here and there. I love to walk. I am an avid gardener who is now always looking to do 2 things - fit in more plants and trees and find ways to streamline my gardeneing. Alas those goals seem to conflict with each other. When I am not doing any of the above activities, I love to relax and do nothing but watch the world outside my windows.
