A superb two bed apartment in a listed building, formerly the factory of James Dixon & Sons, a Britannia metal, Sheffield plate and Cutlery manufacturer. In the late 1990s the disused building was converted into apartments. It is regarded as the most impressive cutlery works that still stands in Sheffield and rivals the cotton mills of Lancashire and the West Riding in terms of architectural quality and heritage.

The space
With over 2.5 meter high widows and original wooden shutters, the apartment is drenched in natural light throughout. The main rooms and hall way are very large as is typical of this type of Mill conversion. There are two double bedrooms and a small single bedroom. The main bedroom has a king size bed, wardrobes and double large windows and a quaint little hatch looking out down the hall way. There is a family bathroom with a over bath shower. At the end of the 7 meter long hall there is the living area with open plan kitchen. There are two good sized settees, lamps, tv and 4 large windows. There is a smart TV with iPlayer and Netflix etc and wireless broadband. The kitchen comes equipped with all the utilities you’d expect including oven and hob, microwave and coffee machine. There is a small room that has a single bed with stairs leading up to the mezzanine floor. Here, there is a double bed, bedside table, a small hanging wardrobe and a desk. There is a hairdryer, iron and ironing board and a washing machine that you are free to use. Guests have use of the on-site small gym. There is one designated, secure parking space within the complex.

Guest access
When you stay, you will have sole use of the apartment. Our personal belongings will be around as we will use the apartment when we are not away. Please feel free to use washing up liquid, toilet rolls, and any foodstuff in the cupboards that is here when you arrive. It would be really helpful to us and any other users if you replace anything you have used before you leave.

Other things to note
Pleased note, Cornish Place is a residential block. We have neighbours above and below us. Recently, we have had a few problems with guests who have been very noisy during the night and our neighbours have contacted us to complain. We do not want to be kill joys but If you are wanting to party, then our apartment is not the best place for you. We really do not want to upset our neighbours or be having to contact guests and ask them to quieten down.

Kelham has grown into a lively area and at weekends, there can be some noise from late night revellers in the sitting room. However, the bedrooms are away from the road side and are peaceful and quiet throughout the night.

Kelham Island is an old industrial area to the north of Sheffield city centre. From derelict industrial wasteland in the late 90s, it has had a meteoric rise to one of the trendiest hotspots in the entire country. It was recently named joint number 8 in Travel Supermarket’s “Hip Hang-out Neighbourhood Index”. Kelham has numerous bars, cafes and restaurants, many in renovated industrial buildings and all within walking distance. Along side this, the area boasts some of the best traditional real ale pubs in Sheffield and three local breweries. There are is a great vegan/vegetarian restaurant opposite the entrance to the apartment and Cutlery Works, an exciting food hall, is very near. Yellow Arch studios is a local music venue and there is a monthly Peddlers Market with live bands and pop up food outlets that runs on the first weekend of every month. The Kelham Island Industrial Museum which is a few minutes walk away, gives a great insight into the industrial history of the area. The apartment is extremely conveniently situated for the numerous key events that Sheffield is famous for such as the World Snooker Championship, Off The Shelf literary festival, Tramlines Festival and Sheffield Doc Festival. the Crucible and Lyceum theatres and the City Hall are all just a short tram ride away.

I travel as often as time, family and money allow. I had my first gap year after leaving university and, 30 years later, I had my second gap year travelling around NZ, Australia and SE Asia. Some of my best experiences have been staying in the homes of people I have met along the way. With a campervan and a home in Greece, we are away for much of the time and it seems a shame not to share this lovely space with other travellers.
