From the host
Albany resides on the South Coast of Western Australia and is regarded as one of the most beautiful coastlines in Australia and the world. Each turn provides a stunning landscape of earth’s natural beauty as it flaunts its' powdery white beaches and majestic oceans.
The South Coast region, stretching from Walpole to Bremer Bay and up to the Stirling Range and defined as some of the world’s most spectacular coastline, laid-back locals, incredible produce, rich and vibrant history and is truly a slice of paradise.
As the weather turns to stunning sunny days, Albany offers amazing trail walks at Bald Head, Stoney Hill and the Stirling Ranges. Torndirrup National Park is a must visit with so much to see and do including Jimmy Newells Harbour, the Blow Holes, The Gap, The Natural Bridge and its Stone Formation, which is one of the most visited tourist attractions in Albany.
Spring time draws the crowds, with more than 1,500 species of wildflowers and more than a hundred types of birds found in the Stirling Ranges, Torndirrup and Waychinicup National Parks.
Peak flowering time is from September to November, brings an abundant colour to the region. The nearby Porongurup National Park is also a great place for birdwatchers and if you are up for a hike, check out the Granite Skywalk.
If you prefer the quiet times and blissful winter days, Albany and Denmark provides the ideal waters for nursing whales to visit between May and October. Book a whale tour or the best spots to catch these peaceful giants, from the shores are Discovery Bay, Marine Drive Lookouts, Cheynes Beach, Whalers Cove, Quaranyup, Gull Rock, Bald Head and Middleton Beach.
Denmark is only 30 minutes drive from Albany and the home to the Tree Top Walk in the Valley of the Giants. Greens Pool and Elephant Cove in the William Bay National Park between Denmark and Walpole and is a perfect place to swim and snorkel. In summer this place is bursting, either get in early or be prepared to park a bit away, but I promise you - you won't be disappointed.
