Puma Hills River Ranch is a 3rd generation working hay ranch surrounding 2.4 miles of the Tarryall River that meanders along the peaceful Tarryall Valley. The ranch is peaceful and secluded, yet with many services and adventures just minutes away.

The space

The guest house is nestled in the Puma Hills bordered by Pike National Forest overlooking the Tarryall River. From the picture window is a beautiful view of the river, our hay meadows and the mountains beyond. In the evenings, guests like to relax on the patio with a refreshing drink while watching the river flow. On occasion a herd of elk or mule deer and a small group of big horn sheep will graze in the meadows below. Eagles, blue heron and many other birds hunt, feed or raise their young in the riparian areas, and some evenings the coyotes will sing to each other.

Guest access

Our guests can enjoy private fly fishing on the Tarryall River, hiking and biking and scenic views from every direction. We have a campfire ring for warming your toes by the fire and viewing the endless array of stars. The guest house is clean, fully equipped and easily accessible.

Interaction with guests

After we check in our guests, they are on their own. We are a working ranch and use the river house driveway to access our equipment and barns.

Unplug and recharge in the beauty of the Rockies! The hospitality is unmatched and the views are gorgeous. Waking up every morning with a cup of coffee and the sun rising over the mountains did wonders for our souls.

Puma Hills River Ranch is a mecca for fly fishers and anyone who wants to decompress from the stresses of an over-connected, electronically crazed urban existence. Put away your cell phone, plan on not watching the nightly news (or any other programming), and instead tune into the serene beauty of a gorgeous, secluded river valley. Watch elk graze on the hillside across the hay meadow. Stalk brown and rainbow trout up and down the length of 2-1/2 miles of stream. Or simply sit on the porch and drink in the nature around you. Everything in sight pleases the eye and soothes the senses. We came away determined to get back, and we will.

Steve keeps the place spotless. Fly fishing was great, and the scenery beautiful. The place is secluded. You have about 2.5 miles of trout stream to yourself.

The property was absolutely perfect for what my family of 5 had in mind. There is no service or wifi for miles, which allowed us to remain present in the moment and enjoy the quality time together. The placement of the home was beautiful, scenic. We meditated as a family several times throughout our stay in various parts of the home and grounds. The home was impeccably clean, and a throw back to the 80s! We were amused by the new-ish boombox w cassette tape players and the VHS tapes and players. Home and furnishings are quite old - but were clean and new in condition. If you're looking for the experience the entire property has to offer - quiet, scenic, remote - then don't hesitate! Steve was an amazing host and was active on the ranch with the cattle, so you can flag him down if you need anything at all!

Great communication and a lovely home. Lots of things are close by, especially for families. I would recommend more recent pictures as some of the furniture has changed and people would like to see what the bedrooms and bathrooms look like. Otherwise, we loved the views and it was nice to get away.

If you want an amazing mountain getaway to a beautiful place with wonderful hosts, this is the place for you. The guest home is secluded and situated such that you have the most beautiful views. Watching the sun rise over the gulch with a cup of coffee was spectacular. The guest house had everything we needed for a perfect romantic New Years celebration. And on top of it all, Steve and Jennifer were great!
