Nestled in the wooded hillsides of the George Washington National Forest, Santi's Lost Stream provides a serene retreat from the stresses of urban life and is the perfect base to enjoy all the area has to offer from hiking to cycling, and more. And blazing-fast fiber internet to help you stay connected.

The space
Santi’s Lost Stream boasts a fully-equipped open plan kitchen and spacious living/dining area that leads out onto a large deck nestled among the treetops, perfect for morning coffee or sunset drinks.

The open plan dining area features a convertible dining table that can seat up anywhere from two to six people, as well as a breakfast bar with additional seating for two.

The master bedroom features a queen bed and large picture window with forest views, as well as an ensuite bathroom with walk-in rain shower and heated floors. The separate guest bedroom also offers a queen bed and hand-made shelving unit that provides generous storage space for all your getaway garb. The loft snug is the perfect place to cuddle up with a book, play a game, or watch a movie, and also provides additional sleeping space with an ultra-comfy queen futon.

The cabin has two full bathrooms furnished with lux quick dry towels and toiletries, including soap, shampoo, and conditioner. The ensuite master bathroom boasts a custom vintage vanity, heated floors, and spacious glass enclosed rain shower.

While Santi’s Lost Stream is a the perfect place to fully unplug and unwind, we understand the pressures of modern day and the need to stay connected may not allow you to do so, so we’ve wired the cabin with fiber optic high-speed internet and Wi-Fi access, as well as a large screen LG smart TV with access to Netflix, Hulu, and more, ideal for cozying up on the comfy sofa to catch your favorite movie, sporting event, or television series.

The cabin sits on 5 acres of wooded hillside grounds frequented by all forms of wildlife. It’s not uncommon to wake up to deer peering through the bedroom window or enjoying a midday snack among the lush greenery.

Firewood: If you plan to use the fire pit, we definitely recommend picking up a couple small bundles of wood en route. The Garden Market and Kerr's carry them for $5-6 per bundle and you can find spots on the way that sell bundles by the "honor" system. Please note that as our cabin is located in a national forest it is prohibited to bring firewood from outside the region into the forest.

Please also note that this is hunting country, so do not be surprised if you hear shooting in the area when hunting season is open (November 24 − December 13).

Where you’ll be

Wardensville, West Virginia, United States

Within easy reach of Santi's Lost Stream are a wide array of trails that offer both gentle walks and serious hikes through the wilds and wonder of the George Washington National Forest and neighboring Lost River State Park. A popular spot is Trout Pond recreation area, a short 10-minute drive away, and offers scenic walking trails, canoeing, fishing, and swimming (in warmer months). A slightly farther trek (30-minute drive) will bring you to Lost River State Park, a great spot for both the young and old(er) adventurists to enjoy.

The nearby town of Wardensville offers several shopping and dining options. Make a stop at the Lost River Trading Post to stock up on craft brews and local wine, and peruse their impressive selection of local products and amazingly curated antiques and curios. On the weekend, pay a visit the Garden Market and Bakery to enjoy some of their farm-fresh produce and delicious baked goods. (Our favorite is the Cowboy Cookie!) Pop into Ripples in Time, a precious little antique shop, to hunt some their hidden treasures.

The quaint village of Lost River (15-minute drive from the cabin) offers a few dining and shopping options, as well. Enjoy local produce, ice cream, and gifts at the Lost River General Store or grab a bite to eat at the Lost River Grill. And if you seeking a relaxation and wellness experience, book a session at the Lost River Yoga Studio.

The popular Guesthouse Kitchen & Bar just outside Lost River (12-minute drive from cabin) is a great spot to enjoy a lovely meal after a long day out adventuring. This locally-owned and operated staple of Lost River establishment offers farmhouse style, American inspired dishes, and libations in a comfortable modern farmhouse setting. Highly recommend booking in advance.

A bit further a far from Wardensville and the Lost River Valley, there are a range of activities including hiking, kayaking, canoeing, fishing, hunting, and seasonal skiing to enjoy.

Buckeye Adventures is made up of JP, Matt, Cynthia, and Lisa -- long-time friends and (mostly) natives of Ohio, the Buckeye state (and inspiration for the name of our little partnership). We're outdoor enthusiasts always looking for the next adventure and picked the Lost River area as our landing pad for exploring wild and wonderful West Virginia.

We took our friendship to a new level when we decided to purchase and renovate this hidden gem of a cabin in the heart of West Virginia's George Washington National Forest. We've kept its original name -- Santi's Lost Stream -- as a nod to Santi, the man who built this classic little A-frame. While the gentle stream that runs through the foot of the property is "lost" through some of the year, it can be found during rainy season when the natural spring source decides to flow.

JP and Cynthia live just a few hours drive away in Washington, DC, while Matt, Lisa, and their three boys are a bit further afar in Chicago. When we are not enjoying Santi's Lost Stream and all the Lost River area has to offer, we open up our lovely cabin for guests.

We look forward to hosting you at Santi's Lost Stream cabin!
