You are welcome to enjoy a stay in our luxury self-catering studio at Kellsborough Mill, a substantial corn mill which has been lovingly restored and converted to accommodation. The Mill is located on the bank of the King's River in the tranquil historic village of Kells, County Kilkenny. Only a 12 minute drive from the ever-popular Kilkenny City.

The space
The Millrace studio has its own fully-equipped kitchen, dining table and chairs, en-suite bathroom (with shower), TV (with HDMI connection), WiFi and a king-sized double bed. An extra baby cot, or fold-up bed are available on request.

The impressive five-storey watermill, overlooks Kells Priory - one of the largest and most impressive medieval monuments in Ireland and the unique space includes two individual studios that have been created by a local award-winning architect. The one-of-a kind units have been designed with comfort and convenience in mind and showcase unique features from the building's agriculture heritage.

The historic mill was built around 1810 and is said to have ground corn from the surrounding area, to supply the troops during the Napoleonic war. Following many dormant years, the building has been painstakingly brought back to life as a private residence. The high-specification renovation has been crafted with sustainable low-energy principles and an emphasis on low-impact and natural materials.

An environmentally-conscious focus continues with heating and hot water provided by renewable sources (timber) throughout the winter and solar tubes in the summer. Full sorting facilities for rubbish recycling, composting etc are provided.

As well as the breath-taking Priory, charming Kells Village is steeped in history and was featured as a backdrop for filming parts of Stanley Kubrick's Barry Lyndon movie starring Ryan O'Neal. Formerly home to the writer Wesley Burrowes, the village is said to have provided inspiration for many characters in his scripts for "The O'Riordans" - one of Ireland's most successful TV soap operas. More recently the village enjoys fame as the home of 'Reign of Terror', the annual obstacle run (www.reignofterror.ie) every October. Local amenities in the village include a lively pub and local shop for groceries.
