More trails to explore, entertainment to enjoy just a short drive away with places like Humboldt Botanical Gardens, Lost Coast Brewery, Fern Canyon, Avenue of the Giants, Humboldt State University and College of the Redwoods to spark your interest.”

Avenue of the Giants, state highway 254, is just under 50 miles long and winds along the Eel River and through the giant Redwoods. A midway stop at Burlington State Park finds Humboldt Redwoods Interpretive Assn. & Visitor Center. Entrance to the Avenue is a 15 minute drive south from Ferndale.

Humboldt Botanical Gardens a 10 minute drive north to College of the Redwoods and well worth a visit. Then a stop at the Loleta Cheese Factory for a yummy cheese sandwich in their outdoor garden.

Moderate hiking trails nearby. A 5 mile drive from Ocean St along Centerville road leads to Fleener Creek and the trail down to the Pacific Ocean a little further takes you to the Guthrie Creek trail.

Going to Petrolia and the Lost Coast is only 30 miles away on the Mattole Rd (aka Wildcat Rd) but an hour’s drive at least. Little to no traffic and miles of ocean beach.. Take Lighthouse Road to find the start of the Lost Coast. Center of Petrolia is the grocery store/meeting place where if you’re lucky they will be cooking lunch on the outdoor grill, simply delicious.

Humboldt Bay National Wildlife Refuge is just a little farther north and you haven’t even reached Eureka yet with it’s many attractions

If you’re up for a country drive Monument Mountain Vineyards (open by appointment) is boutique winery with a passion for Pinot. It’s a 30 minute drive but only 15 miles away. Other wineries in the area include Briceland Vineyards in Briceland, Moonstone Crossing in Trinidad, Fieldbrook Winery in McKinleyville.

Craft Breweries abound in our area. Head out on your own or you can experience multiple microbreweries with Humboldt Beer Tours, 205 G St., Eureka. All day trip to Shelter Cove, the south end of the Lost Coast, and Gyppo Ale Mill.

Humboldt Redwood Co. provides a fisheries exhibit, the largest freshwater aquarium on the north coast.
Drive 10 miles south to the town of Scotia.

Across Fernbridge to Fortuna is Redwood Empire Golf & Country Club and Clendenen’s Cider Works. Also the location of Redwood Memorial Hospital.
