Once a fortress before the Mongol invasions, it was from the 16th century the house of the Persian Shah Administrator for eastern Georgia. It also hosted a small nunnery for some time. During the Communist period, it was transformed into communal apartments for up to 110 individuals. It has returned to its formal glory, and a limited number of its rooms are made available for some happy few, every year. We are happy to welcome you and hope you will enjoy your stay.

The space
This room was initially for the gatekeeper of the Castle. It is now adorned with ancient blue tiles from the Levant and with Moroccan carpets. The shower was put in one of the alcoves. It has access to a small terrace behind the church, next to the Rock, under the vaulted arch that supports the 3rd floor of the house.

Where you’ll be

T'bilisi, Tbilisi, Georgia

In Betlemi and its neighbouring districts, you can walk at your pace through streets, that often are ascending and descending and explore medieval churches, old city walls, and traditional residential houses with open courtyards. It is five minutes’ walk to Tavisupleba Square and Rustaveli avenue where you can do shopping, visit National Museum and art galleries, or may just stroll in the city center. Several night-life streets full of bars and restaurants are also within 5 minutes walking distance from the loft.

Betlemi Church
Ecclesiastical tradition names Betlemi Church among the five oldest churches erected soon after Tbilisi was turned into the capital of the Kingdom of Kartli. The church underwent numerous alterations which changed its original layout.

Atheshga
This is the fire temple of the Zoroastrians at 3 Gomi Street. The surviving structure –nowpartially ruined–dates from the late medieval period. It was presumably built over the temple in the 17th century.

Narikala Fortress
The old citadel of the city is situated on a cliff at the east end of Sololaki Ridge. The Narikala Fortress walls contain many layers of construction from 6th to 17thcentury.

Kldisubani Church of St. Georgia
St George’s Church in Kldisubani stands on a steep cliff. It can be accessed from Gomi street by means of stone steps. According to tradition, the first church was built here in 1600. The present one was constructed in 1753.

Gudiashvili Square
Laid out in the middle ages the square is encircled by the 19th-century traditional residential houses. The park is not enormous; on the contrary, it’s very small but never overcrowded. Here you can have a sit; listen to music or interact with the elder people playing card; in the morning enjoy fresh air and in the evening stars at the moonlight or enter the hookah bar and drink a coffee.
