This 1923 mercantile has been newly renovated into an outstanding private residence, and you are renting the entire space. This building is 2,350 square feet with 2 bedrooms, full kitchen, 2 1/2 baths, deck, hardwoods, and a large great room with a quaint wet bar looking onto the historic Ben Sutton store. Eclectic mix of old and new, with a front porch that sets right on the main street of historic Granville. A perfect getaway place for everyone.

The space
The last of the great stores in the old steamboat town of Granville has been newly renovated into a space that's 1/3 living area and 2/3 great room. The Granville Mercantile had a complex system of piers and trusses, and we have worked within that envelope to create a comfortable, fun, relaxing, modern (and yes, quirky, to be honest) space for you to relax. Splashed with color on the walls and ceilings, we gathered together some fun fixtures to offset the space. You'll see a mix of the old windows and floors and trusses, but with modern amenities. One story with soaring ceilings, we have installed a state-of-the art Trane ductless heating and cooling system, so that the rooms are independently conditioned. Hot water is instant through our tankless water heating system. Both the great room and family room have smart televisions and free wifi. The interior walls are insulated, so that anyone playing games in the front will barely affect those in the back. You can sit on the front porch or at the great room bar and watch tourists walk by, then head to the full kitchen in the living area to fix a quick lunch. Then off to the back deck where you can relax, reading with the old Presbyterian church as a backdrop. As an author, I'm always adding books into the mix, and I think you'll enjoy my selection of books in the reading nook in the great room. The master bedroom has a queen bed while the second bedroom has a double bed; both have cozy private bathrooms with shower/bath combinations. The common areas of the kitchen has a daybed, and the great room has a couch, which is suitable for sleeping. We have custom curtains that close off the great room from the street, when you're ready for privacy. (Full disclosure: My kids like sleeping on the great room couch, but it's a little too "lumpy" for me. ha!) The great room has a half-bath and a neat little bar area, perfect for game day or just lounging around. In the great room we also have a pool table, an air hockey game, an old-school Xbox hooked up to the television, and board games and cards. We repurposed a lot of the materials in the building, including the kitchen cabinets, the front bar, and the lights in the bedrooms (used on the TV show "Nashville" before we got them at Habitat's Restore).

Guest access
You are renting the entire building and will have access to the entire Mercantile and its large yard.

Other things to note
The mercantile sets on a large lot, so you will have plenty of room to park a couple horse trailers, boats, or even an RV (no hookups though). Granville is a small, rural town, but we now have a small convenience store that has gas pumps available 24 hours a day. Gainesboro, Baxter, and Carthage - each about a 20-minute drive away - are your best options for groceries and etc. Pets are not allowed inside the building, but service animals are welcome.

Location

Granville, Tennessee, United States

In the center of town, the Mercantile is across the street from the 19th century Ben Sutton General Store (just awarded the Number One "must-visit" general store by Taste of the South magazine). We are only steps away from the Granville Museum and several other historic buildings and shops. It's just a quarter mile stroll to the Cordell Hull Lake and the riverfront Granville Veterans Park with picnic facilities. There are several spots within walking distance to go fishing. The Wildwood Resort (restaurant and marina) is just a mile away fronting the Cumberland River. Wildwood Resort serves incredible meals and they do offer adult beverages, as well as rentals for paddleboards, kayaks, and pontoon boats. There are two great horse trails in Granville, one just a half mile away, the other about three miles away. Both are good for riding, walking, and hiking. You can put a boat into the lake at Wildwood Marina, Holleman's Bend boat ramp, or at the Martin's Creek boat ramp, all situated within three miles. The Sutton Store offers bluegrass music and a meal most Saturday nights (reservations required), and the Methodist church (50 yards away) has Sunday morning services. DelMonaco Winery and Vineyards is 15 miles away, Caney Fork Outdoors (canoe and kayak rentals and a lot of other fun stuff), Canoe the Caney (canoe rental) is 20 miles away, Edgar Evins State Park is 20 miles away, Cummins Falls State Park is 20 miles away, Center Hill Dam is and Lake is 23 miles away, Burgess Falls State Park is 24 miles away, downtown Nashville is 65 miles away.
