The Wing is a private guest suite with its own private entry, attached to our 1955 mid-century modern home and located in a very quiet neighborhood comfortable walking distance from the U of O and other amenities - groceries, dining, shopping. Our recent renovations have transformed The Wing into a bright and roomy, comfortable but classy mid-century-themed space with great conveniences. It even has its own patio and grill. People from all backgrounds and walks of life are accepted here!

The space
This house is a mid-century modern home designed by architect Hugh Stubbins; his design was awarded “Idea House of the Year” by Better Homes & Gardens in 1955 and around 100 of these homes were built across the country. The Wing is a distinct space off the main house and with its own private entrance. It incorporates both the original breezeway and what would have been a garage but was always used as a studio/workshop. We've transformed it into a fabulous private space just for you! It is very secure, quiet and private.

The private Wing entrance - with keypad lock for self check-in - is very close to on-street parking in our hospitable neighborhood which has many other typical mid-century suburban homes. We are only a 30-minute easy walk through residential areas to the Autzen Stadium at the University of Oregon as well as the Cuthbert Amphitheater. Walk 20 minutes in the other direction to Oakway Center and you can shop for groceries at Albertsons and Trader Joes, as well as dine at restaurants including PF Chang, Mod Pizza, Novo Latin Table, Pastini Pastaria, Sabai Thai and many others. There is also shopping at Nordstrom Rack, DSW Shoes, Old Navy, J Crew, Pottery Barn and more. Beyond Oakway, in another 20 minutes on foot, guests can cross the river into downtown Eugene for all the fun, food and frolic it has to offer.

The Wing can comfortably sleep four people; there’s a queen-sized bed in the private bedroom as well as a luxury fold-out, king-sized, sofa bed in the open area which can be curtained off for privacy. There are plenty of electrical outlets, a table and chairs for dining or office work and a very comfy TV area featuring Roku and Netflix. The skylit bath includes a whirlpool tub and heated tile floor. The kitchenette - also with skylight - has a sink, small fridge, toaster oven, coffee maker and microwave. LOCALLY ROASTED COFFEE IS PROVIDED to get your day started in Eugene kinda way!

Guest access
Outdoors, our guests can enjoy the spacious patio under a giant spreading Japanese maple tree with a cup of java, a classic cocktail, or just to relax in the typically breezy shade. The Japanese garden beyond the patio is still under construction; caution is suggested as well as your imagination. There is a small Coleman gas grill available for simple grilled meals. Although the patio space is shared with the owners, we have done everything possible to create a semi-private outdoor area for the pleasure of our guests.

Other things to note
So.... If you are visiting the student in your family at U of O, coming into town for a Ducks game, a concert at the Hult Center, a tour of the breweries or simply to enjoy the pleasures of our beautiful cities of Eugene and Springfield or the wide waters of the Willamette and McKenzie Rivers, The Wing is a great option for your quiet home base.

This is a very quiet neighborhood but very conveniently located to shops and food, the University and downtown. Its a really easy walk from here to the Autzen Stadium and in thirty minutes on foot you will have avoided all the parking head aches. There are no hills or stairs on this walk, primarily through residential areas. It is also a 20 minute walk to Oakway Center which has lots of shopping, groceries, banks, and numerous places to eat. We are just a few minutes drive from the area Market of Choice where you can find a nice selection of really well prepared ready made food to bring back to The Wing for your breakfast, lunch or dinner.

I am a retired fiscal officer for the City of Columbus, Ohio. I started out after graduate school as a professional horticulturist. But discovered I had a head for numbers and that was more lucrative. Since Oregon became our home in 2013 and after settling down into a larger residential property the horticulturist has returned! Just a good bit slower. Norman is an interior contractor and did most of the work to renovate and upgrade The Wing. He's also a photographer and art collector and a really amazing cook, Indian and Thai being specialties. We be friendly folks but tend toward the quieter side these days. We do, however, still enjoy checking out all the many breweries and wineries the Willamette Valley has to offer as well as an occasional hike or site seeing trip throughout our beautiful state. Travel has long been an important component to our lives and now we want to offer our really cool space to fellow travelers.
