We moved into our house in 2012 and after a lot of renovations, we could finally enjoy our little secret spot in the heart of San Juan Capistrano. And then we got antsy for another project. The little garden shed seemed perfect for it but we decided not to go the easy road. Instead we had a vision of an eco-friendly tiny house that would be self-sustaining (except for water, we are in SoCal!) and create no waste. The result is something we are very proud of and can't wait to share with you!

The space
We live on a little hill right next to downtown San Juan Capistrano and its renowned Mission. It's a 10-minute walk to all the shops, restaurants and wedding venues. The tiny house is next to our house but offers all the privacy you need. Even better, open the blinds and you will have a terrific view of the surrounding hills. The place is equipped with a kitchenette where you can easily prepare your breakfast and if you would like to cook a meal, you are welcome to use our barbecue or our solar oven! We love our planet and want to leave a cleaner world to our kids and for that reason, we wanted our guest house to have the smallest impact on the environment. Solar panels, 12v battery, 12v electrical system, evaporative cooler, solar water heater, dry toilet, grey water are at use in the tiny house and our goal when building and designing it was to make those as invisible as possible! We love hanging in our tiny house and enjoy the fact that it barely adds any load to the grid!

Other things to note
We have all the baby equipment you might need. Just ask us for a pack and play, a high chair, a stroller...

Location

San Juan Capistrano, California, United States

We are really close to the town center of San Juan Capistrano, in a highly populated area but yet when we are at our house, we feel like we are in the country-side. By chance, the noise of the freeway reminds us that we are still in the middle of everything. San Diego and LA are an hour away, all the great fun parks (Disney, Knotts Berry, Legoland) are 30 minutes away, beach cities of San Clemente, Dana Point and Laguna Beach are right next door. We are 5 minutes away from the I-5 on-ramp so coming and going to our place is easy. You could even take the train, stop at the San Juan station and walk 15 minutes to our house, no need for a car! Then walk or bike to many restaurants or pubs that San Juan has to offer!

My wife, Jennifer, and I moved into our house in 2012 and after a lot of renovation, we could finally enjoy our little secret spot in the heart of San Juan Capistrano. And then we got antsy for another project. The little garden shed seemed perfect for it but we decided not to go the easy road. Instead we had a vision of a eco-friendly tiny house that could self sustain (except for water, we are in Southern California after all) but would also not create any waste. So here we are, trying to integrate solar panels, solar water heater, evap cooler, gray water and compostable toilet in one room, without looking too much like a beta version. Welcome to the eco-friendly tiny house !
