Staten Island is a great hide-away to unwind after a busy and hectic day in Manhattan, so come and discover some of the unique pleasures of New York City's hidden gem and “forgotten borough”.

Guest access

You and only you will have access to this entire house.

Interaction with guests

Once you are here calling would be the best way to reach me.

Most guests tend to like their privacy but wouldn’t mind seeing a friendly face occasionally. However if we never bump into each other during your stay because of our hectic schedules, no problem. Either Ricky my assistant, or myself will be available via phone or text throughout your stay and in case of an emergency.

Other things to note

There are a couple of amenity glitches in the Airbnb system that affect this listing:
• Events are showing-up under "amenities" as allowed. This is an error...there's absolutely NO EVENTS OR PARTIES allowed.
• Internet access is crossed-off under "amenities". This is also an error...THERE IS HIGH SPEED INTERNET ACCESS.

**Kindly note that this is not a hotel…this is my home that I love. It’s a very charming clean old house with modern conveniences. I hope you decide to stay and I look forward to hosting you. If you require a super modern home with ALL the bells and whistles then this isn’t for you. Please consider other alternatives and thank you for checking out my listing.

This is a great budget option for anyone going to NYC, rather than a luxury option. We had a car which we could park for free on the street in front. It was a short drive to supermarkets and the Ferry to Manhatten ($8/day parking at ferry, and free ferry to Manhatten with amazing views) - bus also available. Quiet, safe, neighbourhood. Thelma was really easy to communicate with and attentive. The loft/upstairs bedroom was perfect for our 4 kids. Recommended for anyone on a budget.

The house is VERY clean with no bugs or anything. The neighborhood is decent and working class; the house is very old. Right down the street is a really great deli with amazingly low prices. The steps are VERY steep and my husband fell down them at 1230 AM when he went to the restroom and hurt his back. The bathroom is tiny and the shower is hard to start with no way to make the water hot. There's not really a comfortable place to sit in the house but there's a couch and dining room table with chairs. The ferry is not close by. The bus is right at the end of the block but just be aware that it takes 1.5 hours to get to 42nd Street in Manhattan. If you are looking for a simple, no frills, spotless place to crash, this is great for you. Thelma is a sweet hostess who always answers back very quickly.

Response from Thelma:
I bought this house some years ago because of its old charm much of which you can’t find in modern homes plus it’s a solid house. Guests have access to the entire house. The particular bedroom where Nicole and her family slept in is a loft so stairs are expected but they aren’t steep. I’ve had numerous guests stay there and no one has ever complained of steep steps or had any of the complaints mentioned here. The bathrooms in older homes aren’t big but I am working on renovating some parts of my house without taking away the charm that makes this house unique. Hot water is definitely not and has never been an issue in my home plus in all the conversations we’ve had not once did Nicole mention that she had problems with the hot water. With 4 different areas in the house to sit how could there be no place to sit comfortable? The ferry ride I will take because Staten Island has gotten somewhat popular so it takes a bit longer to get to the Ferry which will be better clarified in my listing going forward. I can’t be held responsible for the distance to tourist attractions. Tourists want to stay on Staten Island because of the quietness it provides after a hectic day in Manhattan which you don’t get in the other NYC boroughs. My priority is and has always been to make my guests’ stay as comfortable as possible. Most people are amazed at the value they get which far exceeds what they pay to stay at my home. I am so sorry that Nicole in her family weren’t happy and wished they’d say something during the many text messages that went back and forth

This location is convenient, quiet and residential. The house itself is a bargain, even if it is a little older. It is clean and comfortable and Thelma is a wonderful host!

Parking was very easy to find on her street. It was free and you do not have to worry about moving your car on street cleaning days. Her nieghbors are friendly. Thelma is a very sweet women. My friend left his I.d. at the house and she mailed it right away. Her house is very spacious. She has plans on renovating her home. The a.c. in the rooms worked great. The house rules are there for a reason. It felt nice walking around in the house without having black feet at the end of the night. She checks in on you to make sure you are doing okay. She replaces towels in the middle of the week. She has a booklet of everything you will need to know about new York city and how to get there. She also has menus of food places. All and all it was a lovely stay. I stay there for a week. No complaints.

My motto in life is to laugh a lot, find joy in all you do, and love yourself first otherwise you can’t love others.

I’m an advocate for green and healthy living. I love antiques, I like to travel and wish I could do more of it. I’ve been to Europe, South America and of course the Caribbean. My favorite TV programs are comedies and HGTV. Above all this, I’m a child of God and I love Jesus. I am a Seventh Day Adventist Christian and worship on Saturdays.

Throughout my home you will see flares of antique furniture especially if you’ve booked my “Classy Antique” listing. I like to treat others the way I would love to be treated which you’ll experience during your stay.
