The space

Hi everyone!

Welcome to our lookout out on the lava. Where are the pictures you ask? Well, we are still under construction. This listing is up for pre-bookings as we are 78% complete with construction. BUT, that said, the devil is in the details and until it is complete-complete, we will not have pictures up of the units. But know that already we have the following:

1. Hot/cold running water (24 hours)
2. Solid electrical set up (24 hours)
3. Flush toilets
4. Excellent wifi
5. Washing machine
6. Filtered water and ICE!!
7. Common area with cooking amenities/full sized fridge/stove/oven
8. Incredibly comfortable memory foam Queen sized mattresses
9. Equally comfortable memory foam pillows
10. Plenty of parking

We aim to have the following when all units are finished:

1. Smart TV/projector hookup with chromecast
2. Smart locks - with 24 hour access
3. Large rock walls for privacy
4. Otherwise completely finished units :)

We've had a few guests stay with us, please feel free to book at this time if you are adventurous and looking for a good deal. Once pictures are up, and construction is complete the prices will be fair market. There are four-six units on site - currently two are available and minimally furnished should there be a catastrophe and construction is indefinitely delayed (so no fear that you will have no place to stay). We are aiming to have construction complete by early to mid December. Knowing that, if you are booking in November or December, the price is in line with the fact that there very well may be construction occurring on site (only during weekdays and daylight hours).

Guest access

Each guest has access to their unit and common area which includes all cooking amenities.

Interaction with guests

We will likely be on site when you check-in but may very well be running errands etc. during the day so expect minimal to moderate interaction depending on the hours you plan on being here.

Other things to note

Again, construction may very well be going on during your stay so be prepared for a bit of "under construction" happenings. No noise is made during quiet hours (9am to dusk) and minimal noise level until 10am.

If you want to see where lava spews out, this is the place to go! Although Lauren and Matt are still putting the finishing touches on the place, it had everything we needed (a nice, clean bed and bathroom). Plus, it had an outdoor shared kitchen and they were very generous, even asking our breakfast preferences and getting Kevin a surprise birthday pie accompanied by "happy birthday" and his favorite music (Zappa)! They even lent us headlamps and binoculars for the lava tour. The landscape is very unique there since it was built on an old lava flow from the 1980s. Most of all, though, Lauren and Matt are just really nice people with Aloha spirit! Thank you so much! We hope to come back!

WOW! This place is THE HOT SPOT of Hawai'i (literally)! Lauren and Matt were incredibly welcoming, knowledgable, and hospitable! They know the ins and outs of seeing the lava flow, what items you'll need, and where to get them! They even let us borrow headlamps and binos! They had more items on hand our use, but we already had them. Our accommodations were far more posh than we were expecting (seeing as how you are sleeping on an old lava field)! Rooms are clean, beds comfy, wifi, running water, and great location for accessing the flow. They even had food available to us, which was nice after the bike trip to the lava! We will DEFINITELY be coming back again!

Hi, I'm in my early thirties, former Operations Manager/Controller for an LED company, former Controller for a solar company. I'm originally from the from the Midwest (Michigan), but I've lived in upstate NY (7 years) and a few other states in between. I've visited each of the 50 states (plus Puerto Rico) which was pretty cool :). I lived been in Orlando since 2013 but currently live in Hawaii (Big Island) so I know a bit about the area and am always willing to share tips, tricks and info. I've fostered 15 litters of kittens (not all at once), volunteered at a farm animal sanctuary and built a straw bale house in North Dakota for a few weeks. I'm into renewable energy (hence the jobs above) and interesting cool things and people :).
