Our fully renovated two-bedroom, three-bath lake home offers gorgeous views of all-sports Sylvan Lake, sunsets are breath-taking. Bike, beach, walk, tennis--and close to downtown Detroit, DTE Theatre and Meadowbrook. Fall colors will peak approximately mid-October thru the first week of November. In the winter, the lake freezes completely and offers serene, white beauty. Docks are removed in winter and the entire lake belongs to skaters, hockey, ice fishing and snowmobiling.

The space

Sylvan Lake has aptly been dubbed "the prettiest little city in the state of Michigan"---a mile of lake front property, two private beaches and parks, restrooms, tennis courts, bocce ball courts, volleyball court, a beautiful Community Center on a spectacular setting and the incomparable Clinton River Trail for biking, walking or running. The lake- and tree-lined streets enchant homeowners & guests with a peaceful setting and small town charm. The area gives residents the best of both worlds, offering safety and exceptional quality of life. This is Pure Michigan!

Our lake home offers gorgeous views of all-sports Sylvan Lake, sunsets are breath-taking. Walk to the beach or sit on your private dock with a book and watch the lake scene unfold. In the fall, the leaves blaze gold, red and orange and you're in a prime viewing location. Winter will blow in from the west and you might enjoy ice skating, cross country or brisk walks, perhaps followed by El Camino carryout by the fire. And, in spring, Sylvan buzzes again with activity, blessed to start anew.

This home has been completely remodeled in 2017---from the top down. Enjoy luxurious linens and down comforters, two reclaimed brick fireplaces (the back room fireplace available all year round/the front room fireplace only spring and summer), three lovely baths, a granite kitchen and plenty of living space in which to stretch out and make yourself comfortable.

This home feels off the grid, but it's smack dab in the middle of everything! Walk for coffee, breakfast, to dinner---Sylvan Lake has more than a dozen local options---from a casual coney island to white linen dining at nearby Pepinos; a Dairy Queen or artisanal Cool Jack's ice cream is a perfect ending to a summer day. We are seconds away from Sylvan's smaller "Baby Beach" or 1/4 mile from the spacious Ferndale "Big Beach". There are two yoga studios within a mile that will welcome a drop in yogi! Tennis courts are five minutes walk to our lakeside Community Center. Detroit's Eastern Market, the oldest and largest historic market in the country, is a memorable visit, especially on a Saturday morn or maybe a night out in nearby Birmingham or Royal Oak.

Lakeview is accessible by three streets; during the summer, two are gated to ensure Lakeview is quiet and virtually empty for walkers, bikers, bladers & boarders. The remaining street is private and accessible by residents only and there are seven driveways on our end, which makes traffic very sparse. Without the gates, traffic increases minimally on our 15 mph street. This village, this street, this lake setting ---all idyllic, wholesome and happy.

Entertainment options aside from outdoor pursuits include several unique concert venues in Pontiac (four miles away) and North 51 Brewing in Lake Orion. Or consider the vaunted DIA (Detroit Institute of Arts), the Holocaust Museum or the Detroit Science Center...just for starters....

The home shares a driveway with my family's home. Although this rental does not offer garage access, there is ample room for cars. We have just purchased the lot in back of us. The house has been razed, there is no construction work scheduled until spring. You will be left in peace to enjoy your getaway; we live next door and remain available to assist or advise when/if needed.

Please consider these details when a booking involves babies/toddler/young children: one room is upstairs/the other down, the wood stairs are open, the brick hearths are not baby proofed and the pilots are lit if you intend to use the fireplace, there is a Michigan basement, the door to which closes, but doesn't lock and the proximity to the lake. Lastly, two of the three entrances are door walls secured with dowels, not locks---safest proven method, but toddlers can potentially open and ...take note...we don't have tv! Lots to think about if traveling with little ones.

There are plenty of homes available for rent that are suitable for gatherings or events, but ours is is not! The Lake House is all about chill---tranquil, peaceful and charming. We can hear the crickets at night!
Sylvan is active, bucolic, beautiful and engaging by day and quiets down quickly at night. Gatherings at the Lake House are limited to the number of overnight guests.

You'll arrive to a clean and orderly home! My crew uses primarily organic products and is exceedingly thorough---they even sanitize the door knobs and press the pillowcases!

We don't have an office, per se, but the back room table is perfect for a computer, you'll work by the fire.....or the kitchen bar allows for a lake view. You'll find the village quiet and restful.

Our home is truly a retreat in which you'll relax, rejuvenate and rediscover.

Absolutely great stay! The house, host, and Sylvan Lake itself were all sublime. Check in and out were seamless. Communication with our host, Kelli, was perfect - attentive but never invasive. We had a lovely -and utterly relaxing- time and left feeling grateful and refreshed.

Kelli was an amazingly gracious host. She and her lovely family live right next door, and she is always available for anything you may need, or questions/recommendations. The Lakehouse itself was also such a treat. It is adorable with cottage-chic decor, but has an open layout and is very spacious, with a dining room, living room and back family room - as well as lots of light and windows facing the water. My Sister, Mom and I live in the area but planned a few days "stay-cation" at the lake. The house is perfect for relaxing and soaking up the days and nights enjoying lake-living. We used the paddleboat and SUP board to explore during the day, and went swimming to cool off - as it is a nice shallow sandy bottom and crystal clear water in front of the house. We enjoying our evenings sitting on the dock or on the big front porch right on the water. The neighborhood takes you back in time where the families all know each other, folks wave as they pass by, and kids ride their bikes around the corner to their friends. Everything about the trip was so tranquil and relaxing. It was the perfect "girls weekend" with my Mom. The small but favorite part was the daily inspirational quotes Kelli put on the chalkboard in front of her house everyday. The neighbors always stopped to read as they walked by, and it was such a reminder to enjoy the goodness in everyday. It is true as they say... "Life is better at the Lake".. but it's even better when you are at Kelli's lake retreat :)

This cottage is amazing. It's spacious, clean, well appointed, creative, kitschy, homey, and really just perfect for a family stay on the lake. It's one of those places you don't want to leave (we literally walked around looking at houses that were for sale and thought about how nice it would be to have a house there). The master upstairs has wonderful views of the lake from every vantage point - including the shower! Plus there's a perfectly placed skylight above the bed for stargazing or you can close the curtain if you want to sleep in. There's tons of closet space and having 3 full bathrooms is a big plus. Sylvan Lake was wonderful! You have a dock right outside your front door that is perfect to get right into the lake. The lake bottom is soft and sandy without much grass, plus it's only about waist deep off the dock and the water is clear and perfect for swimming. There isn't anyplace on the lake to rent boats or water toys but we had a great time with some pool floats. If you want to rent kayaks or something, you can get them from one of the larger, public lakes. The house is located at a perfect spot on the lake - close to the clubhouse, where there's a volleyball court, and on a small street where you can people watch as the neighboor's stroll by, each one waving hello. Not to mention the sunsets - they were spectacular. Kelli and Bud make the experience complete. Really wonderful hosts who are right there if you need anything. They went out of their way to make our stay comfortable. Kelli lights candles in the front at night and leaves quotes on an easel out front each day to inspire the whole neighborhood. She described Sylvan Lake as Mayberry and she's right, it really is. We highly recommend the property, the location, and the hosts. It couldn't have been more perfect.
