Our only regret is that there are only 5 stars if there had been 10 we would give this listing 10 stars. This mansion home has woodwork, floors, ceilings and other details of the highest quality. Our room and bath were exceptionally large and very well appointed. The location in Galveston's Historic District is a dream and is in easy walking distance of the historic downtown, excellent restaurants and several homes that are open for tours. We spent much of our visit sitting on the porch or walking in the neighborhood area. Walking streets and alleys full of Victorian homes is a very rare pleasure both during the day and at night. For breakfast we walked to either the Sunflower Bakery (and restaurant) or the intriguing old Star Drug Store in the downtown area. You will need a car or other transportation to reach the beach area unless you are a very good walker. We used our rental car to drive the entire length of the island along the Gulf or slightly inland where we found more restaurants and beach shops and easier access to several museums. Oh, and do walk-on the free ferry over to Boliver Peninsula for views of the island, the Gulf and the entrance to the Houston Ship Canal.

Amazing house. Room was spacious with very large bathroom and second floor balcony. Bathroom shares a wall with the next room and we could hear each other. Also a bit far from the beach (five minute drive, too far to walk comfortably). Neighborhood felt a bit sketchy but I felt safe in the house and was only mildly concerned about my car. Shirleen was extremely helpful, responsive, and pleasant.

We stayed in the Tropicana suite and it was gorgeous and clean. The bed was comfortable and the towels were fluffy and soft. Despite there being many light fixtures, I found the room to be a bit dim, so if you are a night reader, you might want to bring a book light clip. Brian responded quickly to any questions that I had.

The house is huge and beautiful. Brian was kind enough to let me dogs stay in the basement in a cordoned off area and having a large fenced-in yard was a real blessing. The room was very spacious and the king-size bed very comfortable. The sheets were some of the softest I've ever felt! I will definitely stay here again.

If you want to experience Galveston as it really was and is, I cannot more highly recommend this amazing historical home. Absolutely beautifully appointed, far enough away from the touristy area to be quaint, yet close enough to be practical.
