We, Joe & Agnes, along with our family restored our Farmhouse in 1990, keeping typical charming farmhouse characteristics (stone fireplace with log & peat fires, slate floors, open ceiling beams & traditional thick stone walls). 'Roskerig Room' is perfect for 3. Our listings also include 'Bioran Room' (3), plus Hillcrest Farmhouse (7). This tranquil setting allows you to enjoy magnificent views of sea/hills while taking time out for total relaxation. Awarded 'Farmhouse of the Year 2018'.

The space

Hello Guests,
If you are looking to get away from hustle and bustle of life, then this is the place for you. 'Roskerig Room' on the West Wing of Hillcrest Farmhouse is nestled in the rocky hillside with spectacular views over Dunmanus Bay & Ahakista Harbour.
Though the majority of our customers down through the years are 'return guests', we are excited now about updating our Airbnb site, and looking forward to welcoming new guests to experience all that is on offer in Hillcrest Farm and the Wild Atlantic Way.
Hillcrest Farmhouse has been in our family for the past six generations. We have just received the Georgina Campbell Award for ‘The Farmhouse of the Year 2018’. This, in addition to many awards received over the years, since its renovation in 1990, is a great acknowledgement of our hard, but enjoyable, work, which involved restoring our beautiful farmhouse, keeping its traditional farmhouse characteristics, to the wonderful charm that it is today.
'Roskerig Room' on the West Wing of Hillcrest Farmhouse, is a large private bedroom (double and single bed) with Bath/shower en suite, and door to patio and mature garden garden. Tea/coffee facility in room. Guests can help themselves to a light breakfast (juices, cereals, breads, fruit, yogurts, meats, cheese, tea/coffee etc) in our beautiful dining/sitting room. This dining room as you will see from the photo is simply stunning. It originally was a cow barn and it was beautifully restored in 1990 as our main B&B dining/sitting area. It has an open stone fireplace and a display of antiques from our ancestors that lived and worked in Hillcrest Farmhouse.
Linen, towels and toiletries supplied. Room also has TV and Wifi.
If you have a larger group, a second room can be booked:- 'Bioran Room' (advertised separately on Airbnb) is also a large room with same description as 'Roskerig Room'.
Also, for a much larger group, please check out our Airbnb advertisement of 'Hillcrest Farmhouse' which is the ‘South wing’ of the entire building. It consists of 3 spacious en-suite bedrooms with power showers. All rooms have spectacular sea, mountain and garden views.
Fully equipped traditional farmhouse style kitchen with dining. Utility room with washer/dryer. Ground floor bathroom with bath/shower.
A most impressive large sitting cum dining room with antique furniture, and beautiful views over Dunmanus Bay. Large stone fireplace. Basket of peat/logs supplied. Thick stone walls with traditional wall lighting. Slate floors and open ceiling beams. Satellite TV. DVD player. Many books to read, games provided for play. All of this made extra cosy with very comfortable lounge seating and rugs by the fire. Free Wi-fi throughout the entire property.
Private patio with outdoor dining, seating and bbq, where you will enjoy the most spectacular views of the harbour and the many yachts and boats that anchor there. Large mature garden with old pine trees and many shrubs. Garden seating and swings for children. Take time here to experience the morning sunrise, hear the birds singing and watch the many wild rabbits play close by. Quiet peaceful neighbourhood. Large private car park. Beautiful stone walls built by Joe surround the property.
On arrival to Hillcrest Farm, I will always be there to greet you with a welcome pack of homemade scones, homemade jam and tea/coffee. I provide advice on your itinerary during your stay. I have a book with local information, tours and places of interest.
Myself and my husband Joe live on the East Wing of the building. This is totally separate from the South Wing. We are available to help you with any information or requirements during your stay.
Short or long rentals are possible for small or large groups.
Feel free to pet our donkeys Bó and Bubba in the nearby field. Our friendly dog Shep and our cats will also welcome you on arrival. You may also visit our hens which provide us with free range eggs daily. Our cattle roam in the fields which you will see close by.
The ‘Sheep’s Head Way’ walking trail passes by our house. This trail gained the European Eden Award of Excellence recently. It is a 200 km walking route around the unspoilt Sheep’s Head Peninsula. Cycling route is also adjacent to Hillcrest Farm.
The village of Ahakista is approximately 10 minutes walk. Arundels by the Pier pub has been awarded the Gastro Pub Award for their restaurant. It provides excellent food on a daily basis. Great sea views and night entertainment.
The Ahakista Bar (The Tin Pub) is a most beautiful family run traditional Irish Pub with Irish music and great atmosphere. Beautiful garden on the water’s edge. Great place to meet the locals.
Heron’s Gallery Café & Gardens – is a magical place. Drawn by the sea and sunshine in Cork, they have created a very special place. Visitors can browse in the gallery which showcases Annabel’s originals, wildlife prints and raku sculpture, have delicious lunch in the wholefood café , wander around the beautiful flower and vegetable gardens, visit the pet kunekune pigs, and enjoy the sea views. It is an inspiring and creative destination and you will always get a great welcome.
Kilcrohane village is 3 miles away. Lovely restaurants and pubs.
Durrus village is 6 miles. Bantry town is 12 miles. Great market in Bantry on Friday morning. Lovely restaurants, pubs and beautiful walks by the sea.
Ahakista is the perfect location for touring west Cork & Kerry. We hope you enjoy visiting our magical part of the World, and like many of our visitors I'm sure it will be a destination that you will be putting on your 'must return list'!
We look forward to meeting you,
Agnes, Joe & family.
