Our spacious self-contained 2 bedroom flat is in the centre of Malmesbury. It has its own ground floor street entrance, with all of the rooms located up the stairs on the first floor.

There are two double bedrooms available and it would be common for you to be the only person using the whole property.

It overlooks the ancient Market Cross so has a grandstand view of events that take place there such as carnival processions, and various markets and activities held there throughout the year.

The space

Our self-contained flat is in the centre of Malmesbury. It has its own ground floor street entrance, with space in the downstairs hall to store bikes or pushchairs etc. All of the rooms are up a staircase on the first floor.

The front overlooks the ancient Market Cross and often has a grandstand view of events that take place there, such as the Malmesbury carnival procession, and various markets and activities that are held in the Market Cross throughout the year.

It is minimalist and plainly decorated in light colours with a total area of just over 100 sq mtrs.

There are two double bedrooms available and it would be common for you to be the only person using the whole property.

BEDROOM 1:
This bedroom is located at the front of the flat and overlooks the Market Cross. It has a double bed, small double wardrobe, two bedside cupboards with drawers and a chest of drawers. There is no overhead light but there is a lamp on either side of the bed, and also a standard lamp.

BEDROOM 2:
This bedroom is located in the middle of the accommodation and is opposite the bathroom. It has a double bed, large wardrobe with full length mirror doors, two bedside cabinets with drawers and a small table. There is an overhead light as well as two bedside lamps.

SITTING ROOM:
This room is quite large and as well as a comfortable leather three piece suite with two reclining armchairs, there's a desk and chair for working at. There's also a television, DVD player, coffee table and a couple of small tables and lamps for reading.

You have free Wi Fi, TV, DVD player with a small library of DVD films and television shows. High Speed internet (38Mbs) is available throughout the flat.
Local information about what is going on in Malmesbury and the surrounding area, with maps and guidebooks.

KITCHEN:
You have full use of the kitchen. There is unlimited tea and coffee, a washing machine, tumble drier, dishwasher, microwave, a fridge/freezer, iron and ironing board.

**We don't provide a cooked breakfast but The Summer Cafe and Amanda's (within 1 minute walk) both have great food and we provide a voucher for you to use for a cooked breakfast each day.
** If you eat in the kitchen there is ample space for up to 4 people to eat at the kitchen table.

BATHROOM:
You will either have sole use of the bathroom, or sharing it with one other guest. I supply a set of towels to each guest, hairdryers and packets of soap, shower gel, shampoo etc.

NOISE:
The flat is right in the centre of malmesbury so if you have the window open you can usually hear people talking as they walk past. Traffic noise is not a problem as we are 20m from the road.
In the evening then there may be a low general background noise from the pub but if you are watching television or listening to music, it is not noticeable. We would advise if you like to go to bed before 10pm, this may not be the ideal location for you although if you are happy to put in ear plugs then it is fine.

ROUND THE CORNER:
Due to its location the flat is seconds away from Malmesbury's shops, restaurants and nightlife. The Co-operative supermarket is about 60m, Both this and a smaller convenience shop on the Market Cross open until 10pm. The popular Birdcage restaurant is across the square selling good Pizzas and Italian food.
There are bus connections to Chippenham, Cirencester and Swindon.

ABOUT MALMESBURY:
As well as being a very ancient place Malmesbury is a bustling market town and is a very historic place.

Malmesbury is the oldest borough in England, granted its charter by Alfred the Great around 880.
Æthelstan, the first king of all England, was buried in Malmesbury Abbey when he died in 939.

Malmesbury Abbey was an important religious centre of education, and received many pilgrims and visitors. The Old Bell hotel was purpose built to accommodate scholars from the abbey and so is reputed to be England's oldest hotel.

Prior to its tower collapsing, Malmesbury's abbey was the tallest building in the world after the Great pyramid.

First Flight?
The abbey was the location of one of mankind's first attempts at flight when Elmer, an 11th-century English Benedictine monk from Malmesbury Abbey, strapped a pair of wings to himself and jumped from the spire. He reputedly travelled 200m before crash landing and breaking both his kegs!

and with the success of Dyson in the town, then there is a young, vibrant feel to the place and restaurants and welcoming pubs are often quite busy. The Market Cross often plays host to events such as a weekly market. There are a number of excellent cafes within a minute's walk including the Summer Cafe, Amanda's, Jackdaws, and around the corner in the Triangle, Thomas the butchers has tables where you can enjoy wonderful Wiltshire breakfasts and more. We provide a breakfast voucher for you to use at three of these cafes although we also have cereals avaiable in the flat.

Malmesbury is surrounded on three sides by two branches of the river Avon, which join immediately south of the town by the Silk Mills. There is a river walk right around the town. Just 30m from the flat is Abbey House gardens, made famous by 'the Naked Gardeners', where you can enjoy the marvellous landscaped gardens running down to the river.

PARKING:
There is no allocated parking space for the flat but if you are coming into Malmesbury at 5pm or afterwards there is almost always spaces either immediately outside on the Market Cross, on the High Street or in the large Cross Hayes car park (parking charges apply here until 6pm) . Long stay parking is available down the steps behind Malmesbury Abbey and costs £22 per month. If you park on the Market Cross then restrictions start at 9am and you have 2 hours, so if you park in the evening then you don't have to move your car until 11am the next day.
There is long stay parking available at the bottom of the steps behind the abbey, and is a 3 minute walk. The car park is £4 for all day and is free on Sunday.

Guest access

Guests are free to use all of the rooms in the flat. If there is another guest staying in the other bedroom then use of kitchen, living room and bathroom will be shared.

Interaction with guests

We do try to welcome guests personally but if we are not around we will make other arrangements for you as well as key access.

We provide a welcome pack for you and answer all your questions. If we are not around to assist then we will always be on the end of a phone.

** We also provide access to a 24 hour a day home care service for heating and hot water issues.

My number one passion is travel. I've had the good fortune of travelling and working in a number of countries including USA, Italy, Holland, Germany and Italy. In the last 10 years I've travelled extensively to Slovakia and Romania. My favourite places are Banska Bystrica, Trencin and Poprad in Slovakia, and in Romania Sibiu, Arad & Oradea. I also loved working in Rome when I was with AT&T.
I also love reading and listening to music. I have a broad range of musical tases, from pop and rock, through jazz and world music. Currently I'm listening to a lot of Snarky Puppy.
I love keeping in touch with my friends, as well as making new ones.
