This beautiful wooden house from 1910 only an hour from Stockholm city centre, is located on the historic island of Adelsö. It was originally a shop to serve the hardworking farming community of Lindby but over the years, was eventually turned into a house that today accommodates a family of 6-8. There is also a small basic cabin that has a bunk bed and a single bed on the property. The house is close to a range of amenities incl. a shop, a beautiful old traditional café and bathing places

The space

For a more substantial supermarket, guests can take the ferry (no cost and every half hour) and then drive 20 mins to Ekerö. Pony riding is also possible in Sättra gård at the other end of the island (URL HIDDEN) (ring Maud Donatello, mobile (PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN)). Buses run regularly from Bromma station in Stockholm

We cannot recommend this place enough. It's beautifully located and the house itself is very comfortable and equipped with everything you need. Shane our host was always quick to respond. We took the 16 kilometers walk around Adelsö and that was beautiful and really worth it.

I spent 5 nights in Shane's house with my wife and 2 kids (5 and 1.5 years old). We had a lovely time and the house had lots of space for them to play safely and independently. The stairs are a little steep for a 1.5 year old but there is a door at the base to shut them off. Adelsö itself was the perfect scale for us and had a lovely shallow beach into the lake on the other side of the island that was perfect for the sunny days. The outside dining area was beautiful in the summer evenings and the local shop was really good considering the small scale of the island! We visited Birka (a Viking world heritage site only a 5 minute boat trip away) on the rainy day. It was interesting and the kids were entertained too, mostly by the sheep...I would recommend the house if you want a nice taste of rural Sweden but with some amenity nearby!
