Within 5 minutes of stepping in through the door of the guest suite, it will feel as though you have left all stress and concerns behind, such is the magic of 227 Ocean View.
Flora, fauna and nature embrace the space, creating an ambiance of peace and tranquility. The sunsets and moonrises are magical and on wind-freedays, the sea will take your breathe away. Birds sing their music, dolphins cavort in the bay, baboons bark and forage amongst the fynbos. A small glimpse of the magic.

The space
The Guest suite, consisting of three rooms, is a haven from the hustle and bustle of every day life. The open plan kitchenette/dining/lounge opens out onto a patio with views of the sea and the sound of the waves crashing against the rocks.
The fynbos garden surrounds the patio, allowing for birds to flit between proteas and pincushions and the occasional, shy tortoise to peer out of his shell as he munches on the pelargoniums. The patio is the perfect place to watch pink and orange sunsets with a sundowner in hand. In the evenings, on a clear night, what a privilege it is to sit back, checking out the night sky and the millions of twinkling stars, possibly being lucky enough to spot a meteor falling through the atmosphere or a satellite moving across the dark sky.
The open plan living area allows for relaxation and conversation, with the garden being visible from the inside. There is a comfortable double bed in the living area, perfect for two small children to share.
There is another spacious bedroom featuring a comfortable king-size bed, perfect for a great night's sleep after a busy day exploring the surrounds. If one is feeling lazy, draw back the curtains and check out the sea view and fynbos from the comfort of the bed.

There is a working studio situated on the property, outside of the guest suite. The owner is a qualified Tour Guide who is available for tours should the guests be interested.

Guest access
The Guest Suite has its own entrance, which can be accessed from the parking area by means of a short 3m walk. The suite includes an open plan kitchen/dining/lounge that opens onto a veranda, surrounded by a fynbos garden and a view of the ocean. The bedroom is home to a kingsize bed. The garden and ocean are also visible from this comfortable room. The bathroom consists of a ball and claw bath and a glass enclosed shower.

Other things to note
No smoking is allowed.
Baboons are very much an integral part of Rooi Els. They are not dangerous but are always looking for an opportunity to gain access to food. Whilst we have taken every possible precaution to ensure the baboons do not gain access, it is vital that guests ALWAYS close the security gates behind them.

Location

Rooi-Els, Western Cape, South Africa

Rooiels is situated in the Kogelberg Biosphere. Nature surrounds the house, with the ocean and the mountain being visible from the house. The fynbos garden attracts birds with the many different scented and nectar laden flowers, such as protea, pincushions and erica to name but a few of the many beautiful plants that grow around the house. Leopard, porcupine, mongoose and baboons are some of the creatures that call Rooiels home.
The main beach is perfect for a swim on a hot summer day and is an easy 10 mins walk. Otters' Cove is a short walk from the house, where there is a delightful gully in which to gently snorkel or swim.
For those who are a little more active, there is a great walk, scrabbling over rocks, to check out the Seal Colony and various sea birds.
Besides the activities listed above, there are numerous walks and hikes, both serious and gentle, available for the whole family.
In the village, there a three restaurants. The Drummond Arms is a local pub that is very informal, serving great burgers and delicious fish and chips. Something Els is more upmarket, serving traditional roasts, pizzas and yummy desserts. A new addition to Rooi Els, is the newly constructed, Gossip Corner, which is to serve upmarket, contemporary meals and great coffee.
Rooi Els has a 5km walking/running route, that is suitable all levels, that takes one through the whole village, fynbos and beach.
Bird watchers may think that they have landed in paradise as the variety of birds to be seen is a feast. Of particular interest is the elusive Rock Jumper and the Verreux's Eagle, of which there is a pair nesting high up Klein Hangklip Mountain.
Leopard have been sighted during the day, so one may be lucky!
Rooikat or Caracal also have made their appearance.
We do have a tour guide on hand should guests require an in depth exploration of the many various places of interest that surround Rooi Els, as well being taken to some hidden gems that are known only to the locals. Hiking up Klein Hangklip and checking out the seals, foraging for mussels and other delicious edibles are the tour guide's passion. Bookings can be arranged.
The Shop in Rooi Els is stocked with everything should the guests be short of something. Staff are super friendly and helpful as are all people in Rooi Els.
Pringle Bay is a 10 min drive around the mountain. PB has a great beach, a great town center, with a market taking place every Saturday morning and a choice of good restaurants.
All who visit Rooi Els return home feeling recharged and energised. Come and experience its Magic!

As both my husband Ivan and I are artists, Rooiels is the perfect place to find inspiration. I paint and work with clay, whilst Ivan is a superb oil painter. With our onsite studio being surrounded by the fauna and flora typical to Rooiels, our works very often feature birds, the sea or the Klein Hamgklip Mountain. We are both passionate about sharing the joys of Rooiels, Ivan as a registered tour guide, is able to take it further with personalised tours, be they hidden gems or the usual must see places. We look forward to welcoming you!
