Moorhouse is an 18th century, stone-built, lead miner's cottage, which lies on the cusp between wooded valley and open moorland in Nidderdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. With views in all directions, it is ideal for a break away amidst rugged scenery, and is perfectly placed for access to local attractions such as Fountains Abbey, Brimham Rocks and the Yorkshire Dales National Park.

We offer two double rooms, which share a bathroom and a 'snug', with original 'range' and television.

The space

We call this room the 'Cottage Room'. Our 'Hayloft Room' is also listed on Airbnb (https://www.airbnb.co.uk/rooms/17616730) if you want to book for more than two people. The pair of rooms would be ideal for two couples travelling together or a family.

The 'Cottage Room' has a brass double bed with Egyptian cotton sheets, and a view onto 'alpaca hill' (where the alpacas tend to spend their nights, and the animals get fed twice a day).

Tea and coffee making facilities are provided in the room. The bathroom is next door. It is equipped with a deep, roll top bath and thermostatically controlled, hand-held shower attachment (sorry, no shower). Guests in 'The Hayloft' also use this bathroom.

Downstairs, the 'snug', with working range, is exclusively for guest use and gives a cosy-cottage place to relax after a day out. Just ask if you'd like the range to be lit.

Aga-cooked breakfast, including eggs from our own hens (or ducks, if you prefer), is served round the table in the old part of the kitchen.

Guest access

We'll be happy to introduce you to the animals, and you're welcome to look around the smallholding, but bear in mind that some areas may be mucky (animals!) or hold hidden dangers. Children should be supervised around the beck (stream) and the animals.

Interaction with guests

Most of the time, one of us will be on hand to answer any queries or give advice and suggestions regarding local walks and attractions.

But in general, we'll try to give you your privacy.

Other things to note

Jules is a fully qualified, very experienced and highly entertaining teacher of English as a Foreign Language. If you would like a course of English lessons as an add-on to your holiday, we'd be happy to discuss your requirements.

I spent an extremely happy week in Moor House Cottage. Jules and Trevor were so welcoming; they are clearly in love with their home and just as clearly eager for everyone else to love it too. It is such a cosy place and it was bliss to spend a day out walking and come home to the snug with a fire blazing. It is the perfect place to rest and repair and, if you are that way inclined, to get some serious writing time in! The beds are comfy and the bed linen luxurious. Breakfasts are generous and delicious. The walking around this area is amazing but the main draw is the hosts. You would go a long way before you would find such warm, generous, entertaining people. I look forward to going back again.

This was such a lovely place to stay. We were welcomed on arrival with a pot of tea and homemade flapjack. Our bedroom was very clean and the bed comfortable. We slept with the window open and there was not a sound to be heard anywhere! Views all around of moorland, rocky outcrops and purple heather. Delicious breakfast and great hosts!

Set in a wonderful location ideal for walking holidays, and idyllic getaways. We stayed here while doing the Way Of The Roses cycle route which passes nearby. A lovely comfortable room, safe storage for our bikes and really freindly hosts. Breakfast the next morning really set us up for our long ride. We will definitely stay again when we are walking or cycling in the area.

A lovely house in the Dales. The snug with the fire was great. Jules and Trevor were great hosts- very hospitable and were extremely helpful. The animals were an extra bonus! Would 100% recommend staying at Jules and Trevors house!

Trevor & Jules User ProfileTrevor & Jules is a superhost.

Jules and I moved to Nidderdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in 2015, and love it. We'd often choose similar places to go for breaks and holidays, and now we live it every day.

We've also taken on a menagerie of farm animals: a few sheep, hens, ducks, and a couple of alpacas. Never dreamed I'd be interested in sheep, let alone own some. But do you know what? They're more entertaining than you'd think!

We both have a healthy interest in music, literature, film, theatre and visual arts, and our holidays often mix nature and culture. I tend to use music, film and literature to practise my Spanish, but the last couple of years the animals and the land have taken up most of our time, so other things have taken a back seat.
